I will not worry about that until I lose the option to turn it off on my cell phone. Check to see if your cell phone has the ability to turn this on and off…
 
check out you cell phone, the truth is even if e911 is turned off, go into the tech menu (for instance i have a VX6000 by LG. It’s hidden menu option 0 then the password is 000000 - i look through the GPS settings and even with e911 off, the gps still sends a 3 minute cell position update, under the guise of tower syncing.) - the defaults with e911 off is still to ping a gps signal at regular intervals.

and i think the mark of the beast will be not like anything we can imagine. it’ll be a complete “a-ha” moment when we realize what it is. and with grace, we’ll refuse, before we are citizens, we are Catholics.

i think the mark of the beast could be based on sombodys state of mind why does it have to be a mark? if its not somthing that is symbolic in nature, then its likely to be some kind of bar code that is visible on are flesh

God exists outside of the constraints of time and space, and certain elements of his essence are so incredibly profound that we cannot comprehend them with our finite humen intellect. Should the words directly inspired by Him be any different ? I love Scripture and find more perfection and wisdom in the Bible the more I read it, but I think MOST people take a very dangerous ( and arrogant) approach to prophesy…ESPECIALLY REVELATION ! Has the possibility ever occured to anyone on this thread (I ask this sincerely, so please do not be afraid to answer…I’m not trying to debate any particular point) that certain things within Scripture (i.e. Revelation) simply CAN NOT be interpreted within our linear constraints of existence ? If we can barely grasp the reality of the Trinity, and we are indeed reading Divine prophesy in the Book of Revelation, then isn’t there at least the possibility that Revelation is every bit as (if not more) profound to our limited human intellect ? …just a thought :confused:

The first thing I do is have the participants write what they know about the book of revelations and I scramble these and read them out loud. Most answers are “I don’t know anything about it” or “It’s a scare tactic written for the early church and has no bearing on Modern Catholics” Very few indeed have revelant knowledge.

Hmm, I starting to get what you mean. I don’t know too much more about it than you say most of your students knew anyway, although I have read it. I didn’t realise that the CC has actually issued some teaching about what this book in the bible actually all means. Can you please send me a link or recommend a book that would explain to me the official interpretation of Revelations?

Isn’t there also an interpretation that says this apocalyptic scripture applied to the time that it was written and the near future? The numbers six-hundred and sixty-six add up to the name of the Roman emperor that was ruling at the time it was written? The emperor had instituted emperor worship and wished to be worshiped not only posthumously, but while he was alive as well; something that would have been very offensive to Christians. Didn’t freed slaves also get tatooed on their forehead and hand to identify them as citizens or something similar as well, thereby accepting Roman citizenship and an obligation to worship the emperor? I read something on this recently but I can’t honestly remember where… it seems to make sense though…

Yes, I would agree with you and perhaps freesoul as well in that the meanings are probably more spiritual in nature. there’s already been threads about this, from which one I replied to in my blog here, if anyone cares to read it.

I beleive the Cell phone thing for one I get no calls TILL I turn on the phone then I get calls. secondly I moved to Tennessee temporarily (SP?) and I started to get mail in my name and i have no phone but the Cell phone. I think they do a trace on you no matter where you are they know it. Black Helicopters don’t exist in real form but they do exist far as satilites, phones, GPX. and so on.
I am wondering how many more abortions same sex marriages before the beast is on earth. Of course I do beleive he is alive and is starting to get his ducks in a row. I think the return of Jesus will be in our lifetime. I been taught that we need not even worry for if we are in the state of grace it won’t matter. I think the precurser to the mark is our social security number. Walmart has implimented rcid chip readers in their stores and in their merchandise. I know because my Father’s company bid on a new store to install electric and on the blueprints there was a section regarding RCID readers. also the satilites can take pictures of our house I have seen it Googleearth. what else is next is scarey. I don’t think we will be here in another 30 years… God Bless Tom

There is much confusion on this topic today especially due to the pushing of certain ideas by many evangelicals/fundamentalist protestants in their popular writings. For starters, they confuse the ‘beast’ of revelation and his ‘mark’ with the anti-christ of the future…they are two different people. Other than taking a stand on millenarianism, the church has not taught a lot on this over the centuries spending most time on spreading the gospel and fighting for the faith.

You would have to read and study a great deal to understand the teachings of the early fathers, early church, secular and jewish history, and the true meaning of certain misquoted, twisted and misinterpreted scriptures. The book of Daniel for example has been completely twisted to eliminate 2000 years of history…and the Catholic Church.

However, in 2003, David Currie, a catholic convert, former protestant pastor and bible scholar came out with a phenomenal book that covers all this in one text. It will give you a tremendous grounding as to the history of catholic thinking, the correct interpretations etc from the catholic viewpoint. I have read several other recent books on these topics and nothing else can compare. The depth of his research is phenomenal. As Scott Hahn said in the forward, ‘Dave has done something remarkable here’…he has!

Cradle Catholic here. I do not live in a cage. I have heard all of this amazing interpretation of Revelation too. Unlike others, I do not entirely reject it. Sometimes a shot in the dark hits the bullseye.

For the time being, I am not too concerned. When the Mark does turn up, I expect that there will be no mistaking it. The Pope will forbid us to take it. We will be warned in every homily. If that doesn’t get through our skulls there will be a little voice in our heads that says, “Don’t do it!” We will probably get all three and more.

Maybe I am wrong, but I doubt very much that Jesus would permit his sacrifice go to waste because of some petty bureaucrat’s administrative convenience. If you take it, it will be out of worldly fear, greed or defiance.

On paper that sounds good, but the vast majority of Catholics in the United States don’t believe Contraception is a sin nor do they go to confession with any regularity. If trend of going to confession is dieing off. If it is of denying these 2 items is evident and prevailing, what makes you think they will believe the Priest says the Mark is upon us? Especially when there has not been a history of teaching anything about the book of Revelations? The vast majority of the Catholics that do have some knowledge of Revelations is mostly because of what has been witnessed to them by their Protestant friends, whom for the most, have had the Left Behind series pushed onto them.

I believe most Catholics will be in denial about this when it happens. And denial will be more common as this event prolongs in it’s coming.

The anti-christ will appear to be christ and will work the same miracles as christ did. Most apparition and miracle believing Catholics will accept this thru ignorance. The apparitions of Mary and Christ and the subsequent miracles have paved the way for this state of naiveness.

The more the devout and more the apparition and miracle believing you are, the more you will be apt to believe these miracles of the Anti-christ.

I could be wrong, but my gut feeling tells me otherwise. My spare time is spent studying people. The results I have deduced are saddenly so…

Tomorrow? What makes you think it isn’t going on now? I am open to the idea that it just might be.

Will most Catholics recognize it? Who knows but I doubt it. Except for the Irish, the faithful of the Dark Ages didn’t know that the ages were dark. When a certain irritable monk arrived in Wittenburg, nobody knew that the world would soon be torn apart. When a short bald guy took over leadership of the Soviet Union, who really expected that most of the Communist Block would join the EU?

We are getting better at reading the signs of the Earth but we still have big problems reading the signs of the times.

I have not read any outside source on this issue. My best knowledge is that the Church has elected to leave this book alone and for good reason. It is dangerous to try to interpret it. I tread on dangerous ground even when I conduct Bible study on it. I being an ex-Pentecostal know what the Rapture believing protestants know about it, so I cover what they say and then point out the dangers of that.

My bible study came about after our Deacon gave a homily on “Left Behnid”

It’s somewhat ironic because, I visited “The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament” today and purchased the “The Rapture Trap” by Paul Thigpen.

Do a search on “Paul Olson”. He grewup like I did believing in the Rapture, he has written some articles and some books on the subject, which I plan on buying soon.

BTW, put Mother Angelica is very sick, she is expected to be bed ridden for the remainder of the month. See my “Prayer Alert” in the News section.

Might I suggest “The Lamb’s Supper” by Scott Hahn. It releates the book of Revelation to the Mass. Very good stuff.
