The Devil greatly desires that we argue about Homosexuality. But the one thing the Evil One does not want us to discuss is marriage, that it is a sacrament, and that it reveals to us the innermost secrets of love within the Trinity. Remember that a sacrament uses visible, created things to reveal to us invisible, divine truths. And remember that a sacrament gives us grace, at least when we embrace it and are open to it.
God the Father and God the Son, totally committed to each other in an unbreakable and permanent relationship, each loving the other totally, holding nothing back, keeping nothing for themselves, even to the point of death. And the fruit of that perfect, selfless love is the Holy Spirit, the breath of God. The innnermost secrets of love within the Trinity is revealed to us in the sacrament of matrimony.
Then God said: “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.” God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:26-27)
Man and woman, male and female, created in “Our” image, the image of the Trinity. Husband and wife, totally committed to each other in an unbreakable and permanent relationship, each lvong the other totally, holding nothing back, keeping nothing for themselves, even to the point of death. And the fruit of that perfect, selfless love is children, just as the friut of that same perfect, selfless love between God the Father and God the Son is the Holy Spirit. And when we love within marriage and family life as close as we can to the way love is lived within the Trinity, it confers great grace upon us.
The Great Deceiver wants us to ignore marriage. He wants us to argue about sin and society and environmental circumstances and the gene pool. Satan want’s us to use big words like “Procreative” and “Unative”, and to use phrases like "“We are all called to holiness” and “We are called to self control within our particular vocation.” He doesn’t even mind it when we quote the Catechism, as long as we don’t quote anything about marriage, family, and how family life when lived in the image of the Trinity is a source of great Grace and a vital part of most ordinary people’s path to everlasing life. I’d like to talk about how marriage and family life, designed and lived in the image of the Triune God, is a sacrament, and how we can promote that within our own families and parishes, but I don’t hold out much hope. I suspect that 75% of the people who started reading this thread didn’t get though the first paragraph. I suspect that within fifteen posts, if the thread stays alive that long, that it will start to veer off topic, and within thirty posts, it will be nothing more than two people accusing each other of not answering each other’s question.
Some of you may have read my posts with this theme in the past and I’m sorry if I sound like a broken record. If it bothers you, then you can go on arguing about homosexuality and Satan will smile. I think the whole topic of homosexuality however, simply keeps our eye off the prize.
