Can someone tell me the form of the Mass that is said and broadcast on EWTN?
Thanks
Thanks
Thank youYou mean the Daily Mass on EWTN? It’s in the Ordinary Form.
Thank you Tim, This answers why I found the Mass to be different than the typical OF that I attend locally. The daily Mass on EWTN is done by Franciscans. They have their own missal for the Ordinary Form. The form is the same but the calendar is different.
You will see much done differently at a Franciscan Mass but these have nothing to do with the form of the Mass. The Mass is still the OF. What the Franciscans have are different customs such as not kneeling and that is why it can seem to be something different.

See the highlighted bellow. The Mass as offered here in my Diocese differs from the one offered by the Franciscans on EWTN. I was looking for an explanation as to those differences.Different how?

Interesting! I recall reading about how during the EWTN daily Mass, some Franciscan sisters of Mother Angelica’s order were prostrating themselves during the consecration. I guess that would count as one of the ‘glaring’ differences.I don’t know much about the EWTN daily Mass and am not an expert re Franciscan Mass but can give an example of a few customs…
We had a visiting Franciscan priest who walked around our altar and bowed toward it ad orientem twice. He made a profound bow, from the waist, low enough where his hands could have touched the floor and it was facing with the people, not toward the people.
Dominicans will incense by moving the thurible up and down. They don’t swing the thurible back and forth. Dominicans avoid anything that might draw attention to themselves for the sake of humility and don’t want the chain to rattle against the thurible.
You will never see a Dominican Sister at Mass with her hands in the palms-together prayer position. They are forbidden to use that posture for fear of pride. Their hands are neatly folded under their habit or resting on the back of the pew in front of them.
Brother JR had a post where he spoke of some of the differences specific to the Franciscans and spoke specifically about the EWTN daily Mass. The differences can be subtle or glaring, depending on how much attention you are paying, if it is a high Mass, etc.
