The Mass is so Utilitarian at My Parish :(

Since I apparently will loose the place where I felt home in the church, I would thank to God to find the type of Mass what you described. Unfortunately in our Vicariate the human performance is the norm.

The probable reason for the described Mass that **the priests inner time is faster than yours. **

In the traditional times (before the council when there was TLM only) the weekday masses were finished within 30 minutes and the Sunday mass within 50 minutes.

We are imperfect, limited beings and we had to accept that.

Is that what causes him to say “let us pray” while the altar is being cleared?

In all fairness to the faithful who continue to leave early, the former pastor hasn’t preached eloquently there since 1979.

You’re simply wrong. I have witnessed him myself, on this very subject within the last year. It would be fascinating to know why he is completely ignored on this matter.

Sounds like you’ve done your due diligence in talking with the priests, past and present. You say you are praying about it, which is good. I would seriously meditate upon what TimothyH wrote, as he eloquently placed our chagrin at others’ supposed faults in perspective, even if that perspective is sometimes obscured by the beams in our eyes.

It’s not a matter of me trying to encourage or trigger reform. I am well aware that will not happen until we get a pastor who is willing to lead. My question is how did things get so bad?

The traditional teaching was, and many traditionalist confess loudly even now, that the Mass is ONLY the bloodless sacrifice of Jesus Christ. That is completed by the Offertory, Consecration and Communion of the priest. Clear consequence that the validity of the Sunday and Holy day obligation requires presence only from he Offertory to the Communion of the priest.

This view changed only by the XXI Ecumenical council for better. We believe that the Mass is gathering, learning, offering in our part; and sacrifice, meal and mission from Jesus Christ. This theology and only this theology requires the presence from the beginning to the end. This is the positive result of the Spirit of Vatican II.

We are limited imperfect human being, the ideas are not always realized.

I’m not even getting that technical…

I am asking why people act like such boors? I cannot imagine that a human could be raised correctly (even away from the faith) and still show up late for Mass each week, and leave right after receiving each week and talk in church in between. That’s boorish behavior.

This is not about Mass requirements. This is about not acting so crudely.

If I am wrong I was only quoting you: “I have also asked our former pastor (he was our pastor until 1979) about it.”

When you wrote he was your pastor UNTIL 1979, it implied that he was not your pastor AFTER 1979, unless I am very dense, which happens to me all too often.

He need not be our pastor to preach during Mass. He still celebrates Masses for us.
