Does your priest say this at dismissal instead of “The Mass is Ended”?

A priest I know says it. Just curious, since I see so many other changes in approved Mass prayers as other open threads here.
 
There are three options for the dismissal provided in the Roman Missal. This isn’t one of them (and it isn’t going to be one of them under any of the forthcoming changes) and your priest is committing a liturgical abuse by altering the text of the Mass this way. I’d also say that the statement “The Mass never ends” is theologically confused.

Apparently, many priests and deacons began using this dismissal at the urging of LifeTeen some time ago and remnants of that are still around.
 
Most of the Masses I’ve attend end with “The Mass is ended, go in peace” occasionally there ending is “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord”.

The “mass never ends” came about from Lifeteen. That group was instructed by the Vatican to cease using that phrase several years ago and they did so. No priest should be using it.

Life Teen’s Liturgical Reform
Life Teen, the Phoenix-based Catholic youth organization, announced in July that it will cease its idiosyncratic liturgical practices. Monsignor Dale Fushek, Life Teen’s founder and former Vicar General under Bishop Thomas O’Brien, sent a letter July 2, saying that he confirms “our adherence to the new GIRM, and as always, our obedience to our own local Bishops”.
The letter asked that “all parishes that implement the LIFE TEEN model” make these changes. The teens will no longer surround the altar during the Eucharistic prayer; they will cease saying, “The Mass never ends, it must be lived”, at the end of Mass; the rock-party atmosphere before Mass will be toned down to “make sure there is a period of silence to begin the liturgical celebration”; and they will “make sure the music does not in any way detract from the action at the altar, ambo or chair”.
“I am sure these issues will be hard on some parishes and teens”, Monsignor Fushek wrote. His letter said that Phoenix Bishop Thomas Olmsted met in Rome with Cardinal Francis Arinze, of the Congregation for Divine Worship, about Life Teen.

So I assume this applies to things other than LifeTeen? I attended a Cursillo last December and they had us surround the alter during the consecration. I was very uncomfortable doing this. Should that cease also?

Yes. It should cease immediately. Sadly, some of the ecclesial movements in the Church seem to regard the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as their own personal property to do with as they wish. I had almost similar issues with the Cursillo movement when I lived the retreat.

One movement that received a rather stern warning (besides LifeTeen) was the Neocatechumenal Way because of the strange adaptations they had made to the Mass. In fact, Pope Benedict XVI would not sign off on their charter until these were corrected.

Yes, it should . Cursillo does not have permission to alter the Mass. It’s one of my issues with the movement.

Same here. The folks are well-meaning, good people; however, there is scant liturgical formation, which is what made my retreat a rather excruciating experience.

Your point taken, bg. A priest shouldn’t ever go against the texts the bishops have prepared, whether he agrees with them or not. Ever.

Perhaps a moot point, but just to clarify, I’m not sure if it is theologically correct; however, I agreed with the other poster that it is confusing. Given a choice (which it isn’t), I would not select it. But that’s me.
 
“The Mass never ends…” maybe that’s why less and less people are coming back. :rolleyes: 🤷
