What exactly is the meaning of Benediction?

I saw on a local Church web site that the Church has Adoration every Wednesday and it ends (at 5:15) with Benediction. Any help on assisting my understanding of this would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

Since I’m on the subject I might as well go ahead and ask what Adoration consists of, I have an idea but I’m not totally sure. Thanks in advance!

‘Benediction’ comes from the Latin word for blessing (benedictio). Here is the New Advent article on Benediction:

newadvent.org/cathen/02465b.htm

Adoration is the practice of worshiping Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament, usually exposed in the monstrance.

Are these new to your area? They are practiced in every Catholic parish I have ever belonged to, as well as in college chapels.
