The media is not there to make money, but is there to guide the way people think (mostly passive thinking at the present time). The media shapes our values and morals. The media is an important part of our national security. On a more positive note, the media also keeps everyone in the population on the same page in a rapidly changing world. I firmly believe that someday religion will dominate the media! Not during our lifetime perhaps, but in due time.

If true, explain why the majority of media outlets are for profit businesses and why the media industry has such a long history rooted in being for profit. The only shaping the media does is in figuring out what makes them money and hyping said issue into a “very important issue that needs to be covered.”

The money in the media is a smokescreen to cover up what’s really going on. The media promotes our make-believe world where money is highly valued. .

Are you being victimized by either-or thinking?
The media must make money and do it well or else they could not exist to peddle their agenda.

Who did you learn about the media from, Josef Goebels? What cloud are you living on?
I am not going to debate you, which is probably what you are after.
The Media in the US is after only one thing: PROFIT. Individual journalists and editors may go off on an ego trip and think they are demi-gods in that they control public opinion, but they do not last long if they do not show the owners or stockholders a profit or outrage the public in a way that the public quits reading or watching the involved media which means no profit…and there are many ways to earn a profit, even though the books (for tax purposes) show a loss.
The idea that the media controls society is a myth propagated by powerless wanna be’s!
There is one proviso in all of this: One has to be mature enough and informed enough about important issues so one is not duped by the spin meisters…as we were during the last Presidental Elections in 2008.

Maybe we should define ‘media’ so we know what we’re talking about.

Again, yes, the money is a part of the make-believe,
Don’t attribute the media’s motives to a massive secret plot that which can be explained more logically and more readily by basic human greed.

I think of the media in general terms like TV, newspapers, radio, education etc.
You’re basically arguing that there has been a several hundred year old worldwide plot by the media to “guide” society toward an end which wasn’t even on the radar of the most liberal individuals or organizations existing at the time of the start of this plot. You’re also arguing that those who create and advance new media (radio, then TV, then cable news, then internet bloggers) are all part of this plot. I find it rather far fetched that everyone involved is “towing the party line” and has done so for such a long time.

No, the media people are caught up in the make-believe too. God rules!!!

Too broad a generalization. Can you say the same about Catholic media? What make-believe is EWTN conspiring to indoctrinate us with?
Again, God rules and allows certain media (e.g., EWTN) to speak the truth about our religion. Many people (e.g., the clergy and the folks at EWTN) are caught up in the make-believe too.

When did EWTN personnel say this?
Never. I was not speaking about EWTN specifically, but to all the people who know that life is a masquerade: we all live in a world of make-believe.

QUESTION: What is the difference between the make-believe of children and that of adults?

ANSWER: Children usually know that they are just pretending!

Well, since there is only about 13 minutes of show per half hour of television, I would say it is pretty much about making money.
