I saw a post on Facebook asking to sign a petition to withdraw the Vatican’s sex ed program.

I don’t know much about Lifesite news or whether it is an authentic Catholic news site. I took the time to look at the Meeting Point program. It was not at all what this article described. The “graphic images” (mostly in Lesson 2) were 1. Michelangelo’s paintings from the Sistine Chapel, 2. nude sculpture of a male & female (yes they had breasts & genitals, but not detailed), & 3. a painting of lovers at a restaurant, 4. photos contrasting sex and sexuality. The lessons were appropriate. Newsflash. If you are not teaching your teens about human development, puberty, dating, love & marriage, the world will school them in every wrong way. As a parent, I would not object.

The images in Lesson 5.1, regarding sex in advertising, may be the most objectionable.

The other lessons look pretty clean to me.

Thanks for the link. Yes, the advertising photos in 5.1 (12th grade) were somewhat objectionable. They were not held up as good, but as deceiving. By 12 grade, they have already been exposed to thousands of sexually suggestive ads. The discussion is necessary on point.

My kids went to public school. They had Sex Ed in middle school. It was pretty tame & parents were invited to an assembly for an overview of the content and a look at the workbook - very few parents show up for the assemblies. I think there was also a required health module in high school. I would be way more concerned about what content would be found in today’s Sex Ed in the public schools and I seriously doubt that parents are notified at all.

My parish used the Harcourt Growing in Love curriculum for K-8 Religious Ed, then switched to Benzinger Family Life. Parents are given an overview of the content & can review the workbook. These kids will most definitely be exposed to the public school version of Sex Ed.
