The message of Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jer 29:11

This verse has been popping up at certain places in my life recently and I don’t know how to interpret it. I am a person who is not in a very secure situation. I have mental health issues that keep me from doing the kinds of jobs I would like to. And I have financial issues from paying and earning a master’s degree in theology. Right now I can’t support myself and I lose hope a lot.

So this passage popping up in my life bewilders me. Realistically, I don’t see much of or any future for me. But what’s more, I am wary of viewing God’s plans of prosperity as temporal prosperity. God my make me prosperous in a spiritual sense in the Kingdom of God, but my life may still be very difficult. I am just wondering what God means to say to me with this verse and how I am to go on.

God is our loving Father. He cares about our lives, and wants to provide our needs. Everyone goes through some tough time sometimes. Going through dark valley does not mean staying in the dark valley. The Bible verse you quoted means what it says.

Seek all the help you may get and pray earnestly to God. Pray the Rosary ask help from our Holy Mother, and pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Trust in Jesus.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just checked out a little bit of the passage in context. That is very helpful, too. I intend to read the whole book when I can.
