I have a copy of “The Complete Jewish Bible”. It’s the scholarly work of one David Stern, a Messianic Jewish author. It’s an interesting Bible translation, as it restores the Jewishness of the scriptures. (Names of people, Holidays, places, foods, and Jewish terminologies are used)

But I did notice something odd. The Cross of Christ is called an ‘execution stake’, rather than a cross. Similar to the New World Translation’s ‘torture stake’ rendering.

David Stern also wrote a book called ‘Restoring the Jewishness to The Gospel’. The picture on the front cover depicts Christ carrying a Cross to Calvary.

Any thoughts?

I was considering ordering this Bible. I asked about it on the Sacred Scripture forum. So far, not many responses to my thread.

It’s a cool Bible. But it can be hard to follow. A Gentile Christian Bible would say something like, “And Jesus arose and went into Jerusalem for the feast of unleavened bread.” The CJB says stuff like, “And Yeshuah Went into Jerusalem for the (Hebrew Name)”

I got the paperback edition because it was cheaper than the leather bound one.👍

I’ll probably get that one and also the Hebrew Bible by Oxford (the Oxford Hebrew Bible is just the Hebrew Scriptures [Old Testament]).

Yes it is and its an excellent translation. Preserves the Jewishness of the scriptures and remains faithful to the Hebrew but provides a suprisingly great and easy read. I use it for when i study the hebrew bible alongside my Jerusalem Bible for the NT and extra books of the hebrew bible.

I have the Jewish Publication Society’s “Tanakh”.

Is this the Bible you are referring to?
