I’m sure several people here are quite familiar with the Miraculous Medal, a Marian devotional item which I’ve just recently learned about and have exploded in devotional excitement for! After reading about how St. Maximilian Kolbe used to give Miraculous Medals to people, I decided to purchase a small bag of medals to also hand out! Of course, my evangelism efforts are a little shy, something which I pray to change in the coming weeks and months…)

I was taking a look at memorare.com today, specifically at their Marian prayers and devotions section, and was surprised to read that taking part in the devotion of the Miraculous Medal involves actually being a registered member through some Association! This is fine and dandy for me, since I am a member of an Association, and highly encourage increased devotion to the Blessed Mother – but I can’t help but wonder how or why all persons who receive a medal should enroll themselves? If I hand someone a medal, I would just hope they’d wear it or keep it with them! Asking them to find an Association and enroll themselves seems a bit much! And I seriously doubt St. Maximilian concerned himself too much with enrolling members in particular associations, other than his own Militia of the Immaculata…

If anyone has any thoughts or opinions on this, I’d be interested…

The Miraculous Medal is great. I don’t see harm in joining an association; that sounds good also. Perhaps, you could tell them of the nearest association, if you feel it is wrong to make them find it themselves, but think they should join?

I’ve been wearing a Miraculous Medal for over 35 years and I never heard you had to join an Association to be fully fledged.

The only criteria is the Medal is Blessed, and you say the pray everyday "Oh Mary Conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. "

I have an old Miraculous Medal book here, so will check up on it.

The original name of the “Miraculous Medal” was the “Medal of the Immaculate Conception”.

See amm.org/medal.htm

I wear one because it reminds me of my adoption. Mother Mary is on the front. I like to keep her picture near my heart.

Wearing a Miraculous Medal seems to be one way to keep Mary near your heart, and yourself near Mary’s heart.

Every American Catholic should wear one – the United States is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.

i love the miraculous medal and it was one of the first things/devotions that brought an increase of faith and conversion for me.
