Without getting into political issues (that’s not my intention at all)-

The situation-

You have a terrorist in custody. You also have incontrovertible proof that there is a bomb on the subway. If denoted, the bomb would kill thousands. You’ve asked him politely and he has so far not responded. Is it moral to use physical means?

hummm…seems the bomb blew up before you finished…gee hope this was not a real story and you were using your black berry for advice …

as to an answer…only that which is morally permitted. No torture.

Of course there is a big debate as to what would be nor not be torture…

and there are other aspects of the question as well.
 
There is no way to know that what a person says under torture is true.

As made apparent here, the threat of bodily harm will make just about anyone lie.

It seemed to work wonders on certian other terrorists. We found out for a fact that Khalid Sheik Mohammoed was telling the truth. It saved countless lives.

But did Mark Shea approve of Akins’ posts? We all know Mark Shea is the ultimate authority on the subject.
 
Why are we slamming Mark Shea?
I didn’t realize we were.

Mr. Shea has published extensively on the subject and considers himself enough of an authority to tell others what to do; obviously, we should be concerned with his thoughts on the matter.
