If one knowingly does not get the sleep one needs before a day of long (and necessary) driving, causing one to be dozy during the trip, does this act constitute a mortal sin, seeing as the driver put his life and the lives of others in danger?

I confessed this once to a priest after I pulled an “all-nighter” to write a paper and then drive the 30 miles on the highway to school. When we stopped moving because of traffic, I fell asleep and coasted into the car in front of me. It only caused minimal damage to either car, but it was STUPID. So I confessed it and said I could have really hurt someone, and he said it was still only a venial sin, didn’t say why but I assumed it was because I didn’t *intend *any evil to come of it? I dunno if that’s a reliable answer or not.

Still though, don’t do it! Ack…it’s the worst sound in the world to “wake up to”…your car coasting into another, that is.

I’m not sure what sort of sin it constitutes, but I just want to go on record saying that it is an act of stupidity!
