dianaiad- Maybe my points seem strange and off topic to you, but actually I was “reading between the lines” when reading your post exchanges with Rebecca. Maybe I was off - sorry!

(grin) Don’t do that. I think that folks here will tell you that I don’t do 'between the lines" very well.

(I am very close to several LDS women and there is tremendous pressure to marry young and to marry a RM. Isn’t it a requirement to be married to go to the higher levels of heaven?)

I do not think you have demeaned women who work. I was not suggesting this.

Well, I am rather close to several Catholic women, and from them I get the impression that marrying young and having lots of kids is rather important to you guys, too. Perhaps there is both truth and…not quite so much truth…in both perceptions?

Actually, as the mother of five, I DO want my kids to marry returned missionaries. So did my parents. However, in my family that didn’t work out so well. We turned the tradition upside down. I served a mission, came home and converted my husband. So did my sister. So did my oldest daughter. The rest of my kids? Not married yet.

…and except for the youngest, who just turned 24 (and is not married yet either) all of them are within 3 years of 30, one way or the other.

I think they can get married now.

When I was investigating LDS, I was in a ward with a lot of young married couples. I felt like such an exotic zoo animal–being in my mid-30’s and being divorced. Felt totally out of place. Not that anyone there did anything to make me feel out of place–they were all super nice. But being single in that ward (even though I was married once before) was rough. Really rough.

We have “Young Adult” and "singles’ wards for folks like you, Sablue…and they have a LOT of fun there!

The singles wards in my area have an upper age limit of 30, so that really wasn’t a viable solution.

(grin) …in my area people don’t pay a whole lot of attention to that age limit, unless they are sporting liver spots on their liver spots. They wouldn’t let ME in one, for instance.

Really, I tried…the age thing was enforced and I really wasn’t interested in hanging with that age group.

I did attend several LDS singles events (events, that is, not a singles ward) that were targeted at my age group. Like all other Christian singles events I’ve been to for people in my age group, they were of varying quality.

No matter which faith group, it is just no fun when a creepy, WAY older, inappropriate guy hits on you, gets told gently but firmly NO, and doesn’t give up.

At these kinds of events (again, regardless of which faith group sponsors them) I sometimes think I’m already in purgatory (or spirit prison, if you prefer).

Well, we can cry in our soup together on this one, that’s for sure.

Weird thing…before I was serious about Catholicism, I got a “whisper” in my head. It said “Go to the Catholic Church…you will find your husband there.” Now, I am not saying it WAS God telling me this…it could have been my own stream of consciousness…but still, it gave me the shivers.

And yet, despite the obvious draw (assuming the whisper really did come from God and not my own mind) I still struggled w/a lot of stuff in the CC. It took me a while to be ready to enter.
