The Mormons Turned On Me

As with other religions, some are friendly to Catholics others not so much. And there are plenty of articles written by Catholics against other religions, so it is a two way street.

Very elegantly put, and I will venture a guess that the two major sects you reference are the Mormons and Jehovas and there offshoots.

“The true Church is difficult to join and easy to leave. The false sects are easy to join and difficult to leave.”

Wisdom.
Let us attend.

What happens at a Seventh Day Adventist service? I never hear about them.

As a former Mormon who has sat behind many closed doors, I can assure you that the friendships you speak of are mostly fake. People are carefully trained on how to turn on the charm and invite you in. Investigators of the church quickly become assignments. They become projects. People are specifically assigned to become your friend. I’ve done it many times. I’ve assigned it many times. It’s textbook stuff.

What are you talking about?
I was born into the church and am Catholic for life.

If you are saying it’s easy not to attend services, you are right.
But is that a good thing, that the Church doesn’t actively encourage adherence by it’s members?

No way! Really!?! Tell us more about this. 😮😮
Well, I’ll tell you how it was when I was LDS, not too many years ago. They have this committee that meets on Sundays, called the Ward Council. The Ward Council is made up of the bishopric and leaders of the various organizations of the ward, one of which is the Ward Mission Leader. He reports on the weekly activities of the full-time missionaries in the ward, plus whatever member activities regarding missionary work are happening.

When a new “investigator” comes into play, the Ward Council will evaluate them. For instance, they will discuss their age, occupation, single, married, family, likes, dislikes, whatever information is pertinent and then discuss people in the ward who are good matches. That person, or people, will be assigned to become the new investigator’s friend. In addition, the bishop will likely tell everyone on the ward council that it is their duty to reach out to the new investigator and make them feel welcome when they see them at church.

I’m not saying that Mormons are only friendly because they are assigned to be friendly. I’m sure there are those who would do it on their own accord, but being a friend is often a “project”.

I became a project immediately after I announced my resignation from the Church on Facebook. I immediately received all kinds of attention from people in the ward who suddenly wanted to become my friend . . . hahahaha. I knew then that I had become the bishop’s latest project.

The first people that became friendly and interested in me where all former Catholics haha But That sounds exhausting to coordinate all of that! And are you still a project for them? Do they still reach out to you?

They train their members to be self starters and show initiative. That’s how they can run their local churches without any paid help. They get their members to do all the work. If you join, you also contribute your time.

On administration and management, other churches could learn much from the LDS.

And are you still a project for them? Do they still reach out to you?
Yeah. Still am. I occasionally get books in the mail, links to read and people openly admit to trying to rescue me because they love me. I appreciate it. I have no hard feelings about it or towards them. Any ill feelings I have are directed to those at the top who continue to knowingly perpetuate this fraud.

I drive into Detroit to attend Mass. Please consider coming to St. Joseph Oratory. It’s a beautiful old Church with Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priests. And please, stay away from any worship that is not Catholic.

Even though some of us have different religious views. I do appreciate all of your knowledge.

Awesome! I’m definitely going to look up their mass times. Are you going to Ford Field for the beatification of Fr. Casey?

Oh my gosh! I’ve been talking to Mormons too. I posted about it a while ago and noticed your post while scrolling through the forums.
They’ve been very sweet to me so far and I’ve only been to their church twice (once last year, once this year). I have already heard someone scoff something about the Church taking stuff out of the Bible and messing it up to where they needed the Book of Mormon because the Bible wasn’t clear enough any more.
I’m thinking about running back to the Church full-force because the Mormons pushing Baptism really fast and when I said I’m uncomfortable with that because I’ve already been Baptized they said that’s great but I need it with proper authority. I’m like yeeaahhh but if I do that that’s a pretty big deal. And they’re like oohh you need to make sacrifices for Jesus though!
And I’m just looking at them thinking “guys, I definitely believe in Jesus, I’m just not sure about this church.” xD And any time people talk about re-baptizing I get skeptical because the Catholic Church doesn’t even tell converts baptized in other churches to do that a lot of times as long as they have records of it.
I wonder if they’ll turn on me like this if/when I tell them I’d like to stop meeting with them, go to Confession, and go back to weekly Mass receiving our Lord’s Body and Blood.

Do you really have to wonder about this? 🤨 Let us know what happens! 😎

Just saying, a guy I was dating ran off with the Mormons.

I think secretly, he wanted a cheap way of travelling the States

I’m not putting every LDS person in the same box. From that visit, I walked away with the impression that it’s encouraged from leadership for members to snub anyone who does not attend Sunday services regularly and to criticize other churches during Sunday school.

I know that you’re LDS and I apologize if anything I have written offended you- it wasn’t my intention. 🙂

God Bless.

I don’t think the missionaries will turn on you; they’ll just reach out to you every few months most likely. Keep us posted. What do you think about what they’ve been teaching you? And they do push baptism rather quickly haha

That is not true. Members should go to all of church, nonetheless no one is snubbed.

In all my years as a Mormon I can’t remember ever being encouraged to snub anyone for any reason. On the other hand, Mormons beat the heck out of other religions, particularly Catholics, during Sunday School and especially during their priesthood meetings.
