I’d rather like that we would strive to be the best charitable people in HOW we do our acts of charity, which is not just about giving alms to the poor!

I agree we are one of the most charitable organization in the world because thats what we aim for by spreading the Gospel to all nations. We also have a lot of brave men and women in catholic orginizations bringing comfort to hurting places in the world.

I don’t have the exact numbers handy, but I’m sure with some time you’ll be able to find it. The KofC just released their numbers for last year and they gave somewhere around 160 million dollars to charity, and volunteered over 65 million work hours to different charities.

I just read on Forbes dot com that Catholic Charities USA received the VAST majority of its support from the Government (61%) with a total revenue of $3.27 bil. As a comparison, the Salvation Army has a total revenue of $3.1 bil and receives only 11% support from the Government. Private support is WAY higher for the Salvation Army (50%) when compared to Catholic Charities USA (18%). The last I checked there are way, way, way more Catholics in the USA then there are people of the Salvation Army. Looks like the Salvation Army is actually far more charitable when compared to the super-huge Catholic Church (at least when compared to Catholic Charities USA). I’ve heard the “Catholics, Come Home” advertisements on the radio that say the Catholic Church is the most charitable organization in the world. I’m sure that the Catholic Church has many other charitable organizations not associated with the Catholic Charities USA that put them at the top world wide. But why rely so much on government support? The Mayo Clinic, YMCA, United Way, and Cleveland Clinic Foundation (all which outrank Catholic Charities) receive hardly any Government support. Is Catholic Charities a servant to the Government?

This guy on here says the same thing, “What — if you don’t mind me asking — is the number-one most charitable organization in the universe? The Red Cross? Nope. The Secular Humanist Aid and Relief Effort? Hahahahaha, but no. It’s the Roman Catholic Church.”

Where does he have the evidence to make this statement? I’m not saying he’s wrong, but I just want proof or some type of data to show it.
