What is one of the most loving or charitable things you have recently witnessed?
About a month ago, I saw a very old man (80’s at least) shuffling a grocery cart up and down the aisles of Smiths grocery store. Next to him was, I think, a grandson or great-grandson who was about 20 yrs. The younger man walked as slow as the older man pointing out various things on the shelves so the older man could put the items in his cart. I watched them on an off for a half hour mezmarized by the patience and soft-spokenness of the man in his twenties who never did anything for the old man but rather allowed him the dignity to be totally self-reliant. But the thing that hit me the most was how unassuming the young man was. He was so absorbed in what he was doing, he didn’t notice me watching him. Our eyes only met once as we both left the store. I smiled at him. He smiled at me. And we both went our ways.
