Psalm45_9

Guest
January 3rd is the Most Holy Name of Jesus, as of last year there were no texts translated yet for the brieviary, stupid me did not order my 2006 St. Joseph’s guide for the liturgy of the hours until last Thursday. I am wondering if there are any texts available yet (meaning which readings, prayers, etc. to use) Thank you.

Yes it is. But there are no official texts in English yet accoring to the 2006 Guide. The normal Tuesday before Epiphany is being used.

Note: I am going by the guide for the 4 volumn set.

Me too, the 4 volume set is great!

I like it for the Office Readings. I normally get more out of those than the prayers.

Since 1530, being given permission by Pope Clement VII, the Franciscans have been permitted to celebrate this feast with a proper Office. The Proper Offices of Franciscan Saints and Blessed in the Liturgy of the Hours (English translation prepared by the Friars of Franciscan Liturgical Projects 1977) contains a fully proper office for this memorial, but for the sake of brevity I shall reproduce here only the Antiphons and Prayer, if you wish to use them in private devotion.

Invitatory Ant. Come, let us worship the glorious Name of Jesus; it is above every other name.

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH Ant. He Gave himself up to free his people and to acquire for himself a name forever.

Prayer
O God,
you appointed your only-begotten Son redeemer of the human race
and commanded that his name be called Jesus.
May we who venerate his name on earth
also enjoy his presence in heaven,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

CANTICLE OF MARY Ant. He who is mighty has done great things and holy is his name.

Thank you! I’ll do just that! Just one more question, which commons will be used for this day or is it OK if I use the Psalms for Tuesday Week II?

Yes, out of all five of the offices, I find the Office of Readings to be the most spiritually rich.

Since it is an optional memorial in the general calendar, yeah, I’d use Psalter II Tuesday.

(To reiterate: The office in my book, though ranked as an obligatory memorial, is fully decked out. Proper hymns, psalms for the OOR, Antiphons to go with Sunday MP I, proper psalms for EP, et cetera. It even prescribes the *Te Deum *in the OOR! But I suppose if I were going to celebrate a memorial with great solemnity, the Holy Name of Jesus would be it. (That and there is no Common for a “name”))

This Office for the Holy Name of Jesus is in the Franciscan breviary! I am happy to be a Franciscan Tertiary. 🙂

Ave Maria!

Yes it is in the modern Franciscan Proper Supplement for both Christian Prayer & LOTH…however it existed in the 1965 & prior breviarys and missals…

Another Vatican II glitch…of sorts

Frater/Sorore, thank you for giving the Porper for January 3.
I wish to ask a favor: can you put the 2nd Reading and Responsory of the OptM of the Most Holy Name of Jesus.
Many thanks, frater/sorore.

This thread hasn’t been posted on for nearly six years. Since you’re new, you probably don’t know this, but the rule of thumb on CAF is that if the thread hasn’t been posted on in more than a year, that you should start a new thread.
