The most nasty thing I've seen on tv

Fuse TV? Hah, be glad you didn’t wander across an episode of it’s wonderful show called “Pants Off Dance Off.”

I kid you not.
 
Fuse also hosts a strip show where people strip to music videos (Pants Off Dance Off). They advertise that if you go to the website, you can see it all (the show stops with them wrapped in a towel)

It makes me queasy just thinking about it
 
Yesterday we visited my parents who have cable TV. I watched about 5 minutes. Started on the National Geographic channel (the channel it was set to when I turned the TV on). It was a prison show and as they were interviewing the prisoner, you could see the pornographic posters on display in his cell. So I quickly changed the channel to the Animal Channel. It was on commercials, so I flipped through the guide to try and find something worth watching. Nothing. But while I was stuck in the commercial break on Animal Planet I heard God’s name taken in vain several times (during the commercial break) and it just really disgusted me! :mad: These were 2 “innocent” channels, but I couldn’t watch 5 minutes without being offended by both of them! YUCK! I’m so glad we don’t have cable/satelite anymore! :extrahappy:

We have cable for Noggin (the preschool shows), Disney (Clubhouse Disney in the mornings), EWTN, FoodTV…and Comedy Central/Cartoon Network for my DH who is not easily offended and finds those things amusing, much to my chagrin.

“Go nekkid.” was a battle cry of the Hippies in 1968.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, a line needs to be drawn in our own households. Or “everything” will be OK.

I have never heard of Fuse TV, or some of the others mentioned. I have cable TV only because if I didn’t, there would be poor or NO reception at all.
It seems there’s alot of curiosity about these “nasty things”…I am AGAINST censorship…but I know what is offensive to ME. IMO no one else should make that decision for me. This is on the issue of television. Community public standards are another issue.

TV is an OPTION, don’t forget that. Technology allows us to protect our children. I think in general that children are better off with less (or no) “boob tube” watching. 🙂
 
I really don’t watch TV all that much precisely because almost all I see on the American networks, both cable and regular, is such rubbish.

I am fortunate that I can watch Canadian TV, and I watch CBC Newsworld, BBC World, the Weather Network, and the CBC itself.

I won’t hijack this thread with the rest of my viewing and listening habits, but will create a new thread for what I see as alternatives.

If you’re offended don’t watch it. We keep on being told we have the power of the off button. I use it for practically everything.
 
Just turning it off is not the answer. Christians need to realize how far the unGodly message is going. Like the watcher at the gate, this sort of thing needs to be understood for what it is. Right is wrong and bad is right, or at least, OK.

The message is being sent to young and old: Whatever it is, it’s OK. “No limits.” As Christians, God has made it clear that certain things are right and others are wrong. It’s all very black and white.

I encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ to stand up for what is good, right and virtuous.

Good answer, Jim. What kind of censorship do you want, Ed? …and who will be the chief censor???:confused: You? This is truly a slippery slope. I find your view somewhat naive, esp. in a free society. Community standards are one thing, but wholesale censorship is quite another, as Jim so elegantly put it. 👍

What do you fear most, may I ask? :o
 
I can’t believe this thread is still going. I remember it the first time back when it had to be edited, LOL.
 
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Among Catholics, it is necessary to point out problems and discuss possible solutions. Some Catholics do not realize how far television has gone from the path of wholesome family entertainment.

What Catholics watch on TV can affect them. It can place too much emphasis on the world and not enough on being like Christ. The Bible warns that Catholics must be sober and vigilant.

Well, then perhaps you’d be happier in a place where Catholicism is the state religion and it controls the media…this is not our country, and won’t be. We are in charge of our own consciences… yes, be sober and vigilant…for your family, your parish, your community…but when you become in charge of what anyone is allowed to watch, hear or read, then we have censorship. There is also the “forbidden fruit” aspect of censorship…just attracts more people to what is “forbidden”.😊

You don’t say what kind of censorship you propose. There is EWTN, is it not on your cable? I certainly agree with your statement about too much emphasis on the world. Is censorship of TV the way to achieve this goal? That’s what I’m questioning.

I didn’t use the word censorship and I don’t understand why you’re bringing it up. All I’m saying is: “My fellow Catholics, the TV is not your friend. Most of the programs are unGodly and depict unGodly behavior. And it’s not getting better. Be careful about spending hours in front of the tube watching dysfunctional and sinful behavior. It can affect you.”

Where is the censorship part?

Ok, Ed…you’re warning Catholics, and that is your prerogative. We are free to watch or not watch what we like… I was taking it to the next level, and I admit I jumped to conclusions about what people are “allowed” to watch. 😊

Hurray for you! Contacting the company (by letter, phone, and internet) actually can work. Tell them why you are boycotting their business. Tell them you are telling all your friends to boycott their business. Mention that you are a member of an internet forum and will post a description of their commercial and also their response to your objection.

We had a similar situation with Carl’s Jr. They got so much negativity about using Hugh Hefner as their spokesperson that they dropped those commercials and went back to the ones they’d been using before.
