Have you seen the Scorsese movie Silence about the persecution of Christians in 17th century Japan? Did Father Rodrigues do the right thing in the end ?
 
I own the movie.

The book is better.

This article by Fr Martin is very good


My personal opinion is that we don’t know if he “did the right thing in the end”, we are left to wonder if he repented of his apostacy. If this were a true story, I would simply pray for the repose of his soul and leave it in God’s hands.
