Mario Puzo wrote the book.
Francis Ford Coppola is credited with reviving Hollywood because the old Hollywood was gone. He did the Godfather which brought people back to the movies, gave us the human side of the mafia family, also gave us the structure and thought pattern of the mafia. Reading reviews, they say the genius of his film is about capitalism or the flaws of capitalism and escapism. However after the Godfather I never watched crime movies because lines seem to get blurred. I would not watch Sopranos or Breaking Bad.

Today there are so many live podcasts by the real mob figures on Youtube such as Michael Franzese or Sammy the Bull explaining the inner workings.

And the US Italian Mafia has join ranks with the Mexican cartels to sell cocaine to Europe because of their European connection in Italy. They maintain a low profile but bigger than ever. There may be some truckers who transport the drugs?

So todays crime movie is more like Pulp Fiction except with bitcoin and the dark web online sales added.
