The Mundelein Psalter

Grace and Peace,

What is/are your thoughts on the Mundelein Psalter?
 
Mundelein as in the seminary northeast of Glenview, Illinois? Are we talking about a calligraphed and illuminated psalter or a translation of a psalter?
 
This is a Psalter designed for the layman or organized group. It is comprised of morning, evening and night prayer and the Office for Dead using the 1963 Grail translation (non-inclusive) of the Psalms, and new translations of the Hymns (which is paralleled with the Latin).

All in all I have found it to be exceptionally useful and edifying. Don’t get me wrong, it is no substitute for the LOTH or a solid Monastic Diurnal. It is especially designed for singing the Office (which makes since coming from a Benedictine community). I enjoy the simplicity and have only found a couple troublesome points, mostly in Night prayer (seems to be missing something). Finding your place is easy, just watch the calendar so you know what feasts are coming up.

It’s awesome.

It’s also great that the seminarians in Mundelein chant the liturgy of the hours together as a community using this psalter. What a change from the past! Here we have one of the largest US seminaries having their seminarians chant daily. They are also putting a strong emphasis on chanting the Mass.

I assume from your post that you own one. Do you know of any mpeg 3 files which help instruct one how to chant the psalms?
