Mother Teresa, as goes without saying, was a devout Roman Catholic. As such, some of her beliefs would necessarily have to stand at odds with core Christian beliefs.
So I guess the author is saying that catholics are not christian. I guess that statement alone blows everything else that he writes out of the water.

Don’t worry. Just those wacky independant protestants up to more mischief. Seriously take it with a pinch of salt.

I pray to Blessed Mother Teresa for her intercession every day - learning to love others as she did.

The two commandments: love God and love your neighbor
She did just that.
It ain’t easy.

The older I get, the less patience I have for this nonsense. I suppose that’s bad, since I should be growing in the virtue of patience … but that’s just how it is.

Wow. I am not even Catholic and I will tell you that the people on the site are pathetic. They have no clue about what Mother Teresa did in India. They criticize her, yet you would never find the authors doing anything to help dying children in Calcutta. What they will not tell you is that Christopher Hitchens, the author they support against Mother Teresa, is an atheist and an antitheist. He is an insane Marxist who says he would destroy all religion. Shows how low some people will get to ruin someone’s reputation.

When I was on the road back home I studied with people from the International Church of Christ. In one of their studies they took a lot of time and reasons to show why Mother Teresa was not a Christians and was going to hell if she didn’t repent. Pretty sad. Most of the things they said are listed in the link in the OP.

You and me both. 🙂

Actually, that’s quite sad. They have nothing better to do with themselves.

it is indeed sad. Next time, if you have a chance to meet with folks like this - ask them if they ever wanted to help the poor the way Mother Teresa did. 🙂

Oh good heavens, that guy wasn’t even original. Jimmy “meet me at the motel” Swaggart used to bad mouth Blessed Mother Theresa as a regular “feature” of his TV shows.

The good thing about it is that it is just so over-the-top, that it’s impossible to mask that it’s really hate motivated. Disgusting, hurtful, and yet somehow risible at the same time.

Blessings,

Gerry

“Through the entire book there is never a hint that she relies on Christ alone for her salvation. Rather we read things like, “I’ve always said we should help a Hindu become a better Hindu, a Muslim become a better Muslim, a Catholic become a better Catholic””

*""It is sad that you waste your energy attacking Mother Teresa for her great sacrifices. "

If Mother Teresa told these people that we all worship the same God, regardless of who they believe Christ to be, then she did more harm then good to their souls for eternity.

You have to see beyond the starving stomach, the broken body, and see the sin sick soul and perscribe the only thing that can cure their fatal condition. Jesus. Anyone who preaches that Jesus is not the only way to God is preaching another gospel and responsible for many lost souls. "*

Please please correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this kind of true?

The quote about helping people to become better in their religions is accurate. By the same token, Mother Theresa also refused to take a stand on certain political issues that people wanted her to weigh in on. Is this because she didn’t have an opinion on those issues, or because she believed that Jesus was not the Way, the Truth, & the Life?

NO.

I read some of Mother Theresa’s work loooong before I ever considered becoming a Catholic, and the thing that pressed so strongly about her was that she was SO Christ-centered, more than anyone I had every met. She served JESUS in every poor, hungry, dying person she met. It was ALL about Jesus to her.

Unlike most of us, she was too busy doing the actual work of Jesus to pontificate or philosophize. Does that mean some people may have passed by her without learning what the true religion was? Maybe. But through her approach MANY more people knew intimately what the love of Christ was and came to love him through her - many, many more people than those who have their philosophy and theology in perfect harmony but are sitting on their butts telling others what to think or believe instead of going out there and doing what Jesus tells them to do.

Mother Theresa said: “Jesus is my God, Jesus is my Spouse, Jesus is my Life, Jesus is my Only Love, Jesus is my All in All, Jesus is my Everything.”

She also said: “I don’t have time to worry about all these issues - there are too many things to do in my everyday work. We are serving Christ. In our house, He is head of our family and He makes all the decisions.”

And Jesus said:
(Matthew 25) ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me… whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’

Mother Teresa is the most revered women in the entire world. Those who speak against her would not have the courage to do what she did for even a week.

As for evangelism, she evangelized by her works rather than by shaking a Bible in the air on TV. I tend to lose my equanimity when I hear criticism of her. Was she perfect? No. She was hard headed and willful. She had to be to get done what she accomplished.

She ramains, along with Gandhi, as the personification of loving kindness (metta) in action.

Hey SV7, you wouldn’t by any chance derive your username from “Doctor Who,” would you?

Some people underestimate the vast cultural and religious difference which exists between American Christianity and Hinduism in India. The best way to evangelize in this situation is not introducing some incomprehensible vocabulary peculiar to Protestant Christians in America (imagine going up to a Hindu and asking, “do you rely on Jesus alone as your savior?” the framework isn’t even there to make sense of such a statement!), but to do good and let that serve as the light of Christ to nonbelievers. It’s a huge gap, and Mother Teresa helped to build a bridge.

“Upon examination, though, the Mother Teresa portrayed by the media and popularized in our culture is glorified (soon to be beatified) and almost deified.”
Is that like being almost pregnant?

– Mark L. Chance.

Another little detail that the site fails to mention is that proselytizing by Christians in India is frequently punished by death. How else could she make known the love of Jesus for humanity but by her works?

At the same time she taught a bizarre “pseudo-pantheism” in which she believed Jesus was present in everyone. She said, “When we destroy an unborn child, we destroy God” (Nov 11, 1985 - Christian News) and “The dying, the crippled, the mentally ill, the unwanted, the unloved – they are Jesus in disguise. … [through the] poor people I have an opportunity to be 24 hours a day with Jesus.” [On another occasion, she again demonstrated her pantheistic religious philosophy: “Every AIDS victim is Jesus in a pitiful disguise; Jesus is in everyone … [AIDS sufferers are] children of God [who] have been created for greater things” (1/13/86, Time).]
Pseudo-pantheism? Didn’t Jesus himself teach that he is present in the suffering?

Matthew 25:34:
Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
Matthew 25:35:
For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in:
Matthew 25:36:
Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me.
Matthew 25:37:
Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee; thirsty, and gave thee drink?
Matthew 25:38:
And when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and covered thee?
Matthew 25:39:
Or when did we see thee sick or in prison, and came to thee?
Matthew 25:40:
And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.
Matthew 25:41:
Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
Matthew 25:42:
For I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink.
Matthew 25:43:
I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you covered me not: sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.
Matthew 25:44:
Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee?
Matthew 25:45:
Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.
Matthew 25:46:
And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.
