One point to consider about Bible translation is readership.
In the case of the NAB, it is said to have a reading level that’s equivalent to the ninth grade.
The U.S. is said to have a reading level slightly below that.
Translators and copyright owners usually consider a translation that will attract the greatest readership.

Personally I believe his emotional response is wrong concerning 1 Cor. Porneas is also the same word used by Jesus in Matt 5:34. It refers to Lev 18 referring to immoral or illicit marriages. Just my 2 cents
