The Name

Out of my morning meditation a sequence of passages passed through my mind, in the same way one might see objects floating by in a quiet stream.

First, was Jesus’ prayer in John 17, where he spoke about declaring, ‘the name’. Then then incident where he declared ‘the name’ to the woman at the well of Summaria, which was followed in quick succession by the first commandment, and finally Jesus’ command to love.

There was time about 15 or so years ago when everyone I knew was talking about ‘the Fatherhood of God’ and at the time I thought, ‘Just another fad.’ Yet, the apostle Paul talks about us crying ‘Abba, Father’ < this is the cry of the voice of the Spirit of God in the innermost being. Then I thought of the fact that Jesus had faithfully declared His name. The Father. Then the thought of the word of the angels at the ascension. Father is very personal but not disrespectful, for to call God. This is the name that Jesus says we are kept safe, and considering Jesus really makes a radical statement to those who are not of his sheep, ‘You are of your father…’ (Okay, I know satan does not have a wife, whereby little devil children are born.) So the idea of Father is not parental, but spiritual. Our Creator did not propogate the Son in the way that us humans think of. (you know the birds and the bees…)

To the woman at the well, and the part where Jesus talks of a time when the true worshippers, will…‘worship the Father in spirit and truth.’ - Knowing the jealousy of God, that he requires our whole being, to be completely and utterly his. (1st command specifics). Jesus says, ‘and now is the hour’. So my friends who were going on about the ‘fatherhood of God the Father’ were not kidding. It seems that everything that is spiritual is associated with this prime directive that Jesus got from the Father, to faithfully declare the name, by which every family has…Father.

Finally, when the disciples had been following Jesus for a little, it is not by chance that they, or suddenly asked…teach us to pray.
They had witnessed the great demonstration of the miraculous, and magical (not a good word) but often Jesus drew aside to the mountain and prayed. They were curious, how to pray. How did Jesus address YHVH…I mean they probably said, ‘Adonai’…no?

So Jesus opens the prayer lesson with those memorable words, ‘Our Father’ . He wanted us to come in personally to our Creator. So true is it that the heart that will not call God, Father is probably not yet ‘born from above’. This is the name Jesus declared.

Ultimately, one verse keeps rolling by in the stream, it was the time when one of the disciples asked, ‘Show us the Father’. Oh, the depths of divine intimacy, when Jesus says, ‘Have I not been with you all this time, and you ask me show us the Father.’ He who has seen me, has seen the Father.

I guess, I am ready to pray …and you ?
:bowdown2:

Okay…and dance like David did.

👋 Bye-bye
