The Necessity of the Jewish Covenant in Salvation History
Why didn’t God reveal the Trinity and Incarnation immediately after the Fall? Because man could never handle it. Imagine trying to teach a kindergartner advanced calculus? Impossible!
Also, when man fell, he reversed his relationship to God: rather than man made in God’s image, man sees God is MAN’s image. Hence, he extrapolates his image onto the Divine… paganism! God has multiplicities of limited power in vain and ambitious struggle. Also, man deifies himself “Ye shall be as gods…”. This is the meaning of 666. God’s number is 7, and He is Three Persons in One Nature. 6 is man’s number. Hence Three 6’s in One number is man making himself as God.
But so then, how could God attempt to explain to humanity that God has Three Divine Persons in One Nature, all fully God, all fully spiritual, and that One of them has become a Man? Impossible. For humanity would have tended to see three limited deities and man as God in the context of blasphemous self-independence and power, rather than humility emptied in suffering for the unjust (“He emptied himself, in the form of a slave”).
Hence must God first restore to humanity the reality of His Unicity in Nature and His Omnipotent Benevolence and absolute Spiritual Nature before the incomprehensible Trinity and God made flesh.
Also, man’s fallen nature disposes him to the creation, so that he is materialistic. Hence, just as a child needs first illustration to learn and only later can graduate to the abstraction of written word without pictures, so also must God meet man where He is at, with material signs that themselves are not salvific but only point to what shall be salvific. Hence, slaughter a literal lamb for your sins, seek your fulfillment in a literal nation, eat miraculous but literal bread, and pass through a literal ocean to freedom from literal slavery.
But, behold, these are only signs to the real necessities: only the Lamb of the Eternal Son can truly atone for even one mortal sin. And no literal land of milk and honey can ultimately satiate the human desire, rather, only the eternal land, Heaven, the beholding of God’s face forever can truly fulfill the human longing. And literal bread can nourish you physically, but unless you feed on grace, you will die spiritually. And finally, it is better to remain physically a slave but free from sin, than to be free to do what you want in the temporal realm but in bondage to your unbridled passions.
But alas, this is the mystery of the fallen nature: the remnant People to whom God gives these signs shall in no wise in any world be able to handle the full bug when it comes. For they, still being disposed to the tendency toward that same physical Creation, shall take this Prefiguring as though it were the final end.
Hence, the cry of blasphemy of the High Priest of the merely physical-sign religion would occur in any world God guided in a similar manner. It simply could not be avoided.
But this is a mystery: God the Father knows from all eternity that eventually He will be able to open the eyes of His original Children. But it shall take time. In fact, it can only come toward the end of the history of the fallen world, when the other nations shall have run their complete course with the Fulfilling Covenant.
How then is this attained? Alas, most likely, the mystery is this: since Catholicism has unearthed the law of the path of the saint, the three stages of Purgation, Illumination, and Union–a necessary spiritual process that every fallen material creature must pass through to journey in Covenant of grace and truth with God, to grow in holiness toward perfection and completeness–how much more should this path for the individual fallen creature being Redeemed be simply a microcosmic example of the path of a PEOPLE of God who journey a similar path in relationship to God?
Therefore, the People of Old, even though they are only going through a religion that merely points to salvation, itself not intrinsically salvific, nevertheless, the just of this Covenant STILL WALK BY GRACE! For as the Apostle proclaims, how else did Abraham obey God and maintain faith and courage through all the trials? How else did Moses have the strength to persevere in obedience to God, surmounting the incomprehensible Mission of leading His People against the most powerful man in Creation? Therefore, the just of the Old People walked the path of the saint.
But when the Incarnate One tries to show them this mystery, they cannot handle it, even though Incarnate One fulfills all these stages in His flesh.
Therefore, if the Incarnate One’s flesh cannot obtain the opening of Prefiguring People’s eyes, His Bride’s flesh must finish the job. Hence, the People of New shall likewise journey the path of the Saint, which, seeing as the People of Old also did in the greater spiritual stages of their journey, the People of New shall FULFILL the Path of the People of Old, SPIRITUALLY.
And therefore, at the close of this process, when The remnant People of New pass through the winepress of NT Antichrist, it will be the ultimate deja vu of what the People of Old went through in Maccabbees, Antiochus, the OT Antichrist.
Hence, only when the process is complete, and the People of Old finally see all their stages before Incarnate One came the first time fulfilled, shall they see in full, and just in time for the return of Incarnate One!
