All stones are belived to have various healing properties and have been belieced so for thousands of years

This isn’t about fear at all.
Fearing to use a crystal bead in a Rosary because someone somewhere claims that crystal makes them feel less anxious IS fear.

There are dangerous New Age teachings etc. No argument there, but no need to let fear hold one from enjoying many natural good materials of God’s creation because of it.

As I have suggested many times in this thread, BE CLEAR as to what IS dangerous and should be avoided or addressed.

Distracting people with fears about things that have no power…

For instance, do you know that among New Agers frankincense is a very popular incense and used for a variety of mystical reasons!

This does not mean frankincense has any cosmic or satanic powers and issues and the Catholic Church should avoid it lest the satan cooties infect the minds of anyone who smells it.

There is appropriate discretion, knowledge and judgement, and then there is fear that blinds and cripples.

Is it allowed for catholics to wear, say amethyst, which is considered to be a calming stone, for the purpose of its calming influence?
If you believe that the stone itself has power or is channeling power, then it is wrong.

If you believe the stone is lovely and that the goodness of God has allowed for us to enjoy it’s beauty and feel uplifted, no.

Rather like a statue. If you use it as a reminder of faith and God’s love…no problem.

If you think the statue itself can answer prayers, or offer you blessings…BIG problem.

Pretty and lovely things CAN help calm us, but it is our God given gift of being able to appreciate and be uplifted by beauty, not because the things have any mystical power.

I guess i dont know how to see them as apart from their said properties.

I’ve heard that if you listen to Led Zeppelin backwards you will hear a message from Satan.

Never heard it though… 🤷

I have crystal rosary beads, though, as well a colorful round crystal my daughter gave me hanging from my rearview mirror and don’t think too much about them. It was just when I was looking for beads and stones to make the jewelry and rosaries, that was thinking of it. Probably because I’ve seen bracelects in stores that are sold to calm anxiety etc.

If you dont believe it why call yourself catholic? you are not.
We have an evangelical Catholic deciding that other Catholics are not Catholic. Catholic means universal, and the main precept of Jesus was love. Being an extremist and excluding others, Catholics you disagree with and anyone you label Satan is not universal and it is not about love. Sounds like The Old Testament of fear, we need the New Age Catholic’s Testament of Love.

There is Catholic and not Catholic, but no New Age Catholic.

Is there any scientific evidence for this? I mean, if I buy a certain stone, it has properties aside from just being a stone?

Best,
Ed

You can do this by meditating on Scripture, talking to Jesus as you would a friend, attending a charasmatic prayer meeting and getting baptized in the spirit. You don’t want to fill the void with new age dogma because that will surely take you off the path.

Talk to Jesus. Ask Him to lead you. Say everyday, “Jesus, please come to me, I need you” and trust in Him. He saves. He saved me. If it weren’t for Him, I would be dead. I love Him, and I just want everyone to know Him and depend on him like I do.
Again, another canned response. Man, and the say the New Age is full of emotional appeal. Look it’s nice that this Jesus person helped you out in your life and is your big BFF. However, that never meant He could be mine. In fact, even before I gave this ‘New Age’ stuff a chance, I always felt that this Jesus I see on portraits, on statues, and praised by people like you isn’t the kind of guy I’d enjoy hanging out with. Sure, He sounds like a pretty sweet guy. But if you and the rest of the Catholics on these boards are any indication, I’d rather not.

I don’t know if there’s scientific evidence for it or not, but I’d assume no.

did you happen to read my posts?

Citing the article itself is also a canned response. When I first heard about it and read Catholic ‘primers’ on the New Age, all I ever did was use it as an instrument of rejection. I rejected ideas that my family and friends gave me, fostered only drama and disunity, and for what? Because these primers and condemnations justified my self-righteous, self-loathing views on life. Views that I have long thrown out the window along with the Catholicism that nurtured it.

Not doing it any more, sorry.

You identify yourself as catholic. you must obey what the pope says about faith and morals.
PS, i did not just say post, but posts, plural. that includes post 89, which says that certain things are not bad, new age spirituality is condemned

Also canned. If the likes of Catholic Democrats don’t bother to go the census and change their records, I’m not gonna waste my time either.

You can’t even define that to begin with. By the admission of the so-called ‘faithful’ New Age is but a loose body of beliefs associated with the self-help industry. Oh but, “Jesus is the only self-help you need!”

Yeah much good that did me.

Not.

There are many of us, billions, who don’t actually live by what Catholics on this board define as the laws of the Church. It is a source of their never-ending lament. Every time I’m told why I still bear the label, one can only wonder if they ever get out much outside their spiritual walls.

And really? What is it about Gnosticism and New Age that is so troublesome? Does it really define the movement? No one thing can define so-called ‘New Age’ spirituality.

Because by the very definition of New Agers and its religious critics, there isn’t one.

I dont understand the first paragraph.
as for the others, certain aspects of gnosticism and new age is absolutely incompatible with the one true faith, no matter how they vary.
