The new Order of the Mass

It will confuse many. They’ve learned their prayers and responses when they were young. This will indeed be a new Mass for them. Good luck with it.
 
It doesn’t seem that different to me, just a more accurate translation. Lucky me, it won’t be that hard to change.
 
My father was a character. When My Grandmother died, I went and bought a suit to wear at the funeral. I got a haircut on the way home from the store, and came home and tried it on. I walked into the living room and asked dad. “how do I look” ?

His reply ? " Son, you can go to the farm and walk over to the pig pen and grab the muddiest, filthiest hog in the pen, and scrub him down till he’s clean as a whistle. You can put the fanciest suit on him money can buy. But you still won’t have anything but a dressed up hog ".

But seriously. I applaud them for trying.

Well, I learned them in English and French when the Mass was first celebrated in the vernacular, then I learned the new version in English. Guess if I could do that they should have no problem learning it. I’m sure there will be resistance but then change is difficult. Remember… Resistance is futile…you will be assimilated. 🙂
 
I had a look at the USCCB site after our priest brought it up on Sunday (the translation from the bishops of England and Wales isn’t available to the public yet). Doesn’t seem too bad to me. There are things I prefer from our current Mass, things I rather like from the new translation. Hopefully ours won’t be too dissimilar to yours…
 
It will be change, and change often does not go over well, especially for those who have known the OF their whole lives.

The answer is to catechize and not just present the changes. I think that as long as we explain why some of the prayers are “changing” the faithful will accept it. We have to make sure our brothers and sisters know that the new translation is really a gift - it is the Mass that they should have gotten 30 years ago.

For me personally, it will be a joyous pain in the tush (I’ll have to carry my reading glasses to follow along in the new missal)😃
 
I asked our priest about the new translation a few weeks ago and he’s completely in favor of the new translation. He’s welcoming the excuse to have “teaching moments” on exactly what’s taking place at the Mass.

OTOH, I asked my pastor about the new translation and he couldn’t seem to distinguish between the translation of the Roman Missal and that of the Canadian Lectionary. It took me forever to get him to understand that they were two separate things.
 
Why are people worried about “change”? It didn’t bother the progressives 40 years ago when we “changed and changed and changed”. No one was concerned about how we felt back then. We just changed and learn about “the spirit” of V2. Seems the progressives should be able to handle it. For me, well I’ll just go to the FSSP parish. My only change will be put in the gas tank. So be it.

I’m with you. I’ll stick to the directives of Vatican II to preserve the liturgy in Latin. No matter how it’s translated, the all-English Mass all the time just doesn’t follow the council’s documents.

That said, are you saying that it’s the progressive mindset that enthusiastically embraces still more changes to the Mass? And it is a change, no doubt about it.

But, seriously, if the Vatican teaches it, I will follow. It’s what Christ would want 😉

What I’m trying say is that the progressives didn’t mind the changes 40 years ago but, for the most part, they are the ones now Yowling about how bad changes are for the “people”.

Look at your nearest NO parish, and see who is upset abourt the coming change, then check their cars for political bumper stickers. That should explain a lot of things.

Could be that the progressives have had a change of heart? Listen, I’m not defending them, personally I think they’re making a bigger deal of it than it should be, but if it gets more to go to Church, then more power to them. It certainly should bring out the curious, but will the increase be sustainable?
