The Bishops are the sussessors to the Apostles. Like the Pope, they are Bishops.

Do they realize the book series it’s based on? I understand the movie itself is supposedly “benign”, but don’t they address the larger issue raised by just about every Christian group I’ve heard lately?

The American Papist blog has a good set of articles on the whole issue. Apparently the distributors of the movie are even making use of the USCCB review in their advertising!

I probably only know about 1000 Catholics in the U.S., so I can hardly claim to know the entire Catholic Church. And many of these people are not close personal friends, but just people that I chat with at church.

I’ve never heard any of these 1000 Catholics say anything negative about the OCP hymns. Quite the opposite–many say very positive things about the hymns.

So I really don’t think that anyone can claim that the majority of Catholics hate these hymns. Perhaps all the people YOU know don’t like them, just like all the people I know like them.

One more thing–how exactly do “we” “get rid of” the USCCB? That’s kind of scary to me. Are you saying that Catholics in the U.S. have a “vote?” Or that we can “impeach” these men? Or should we just disobey them?

Seriously, why make such a useless and divisive statement?

It’s a shame that we don’t sing the words of the Mass like in the old days. (Note: the Introit, Gradual, etc., etc., etc., are the same prayers of the propers of the Mass, and the like with all of the Ordinaries of course.) Now 99.9% we have banal, secular sounding music with sub-orthodox lyrics to boot. It’s a shame, shame I say! 😦
