The European Union is getting ready to impose financial sanctions on six Russian high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Defense, the Federal Security Service (FSB), and Vladimir Putin’s administration for the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The US edition of The New York Times was able to get access to the sanctions list, Yevropeiska Pravda reports.
It is believed that persons have been directly acquainted with information about the poisoning or have been involved in the planning process. This was stated by three EU officials on the condition of anonymity.
The sanctions are likely to cover FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov, First Deputy Chief of Staff Sergei Kiriyenko, Russian Interior Minister Andrei Yarin, Russian President’s Plenipotentiary Representative in the Siberian Federal District Sergei Menyailo, and two Deputy Defense Ministers - Alexei Kryvoruchko and Pavel Popov.
Often times, sanctions aren’t about preventing gas or deodorant or whatever product from reaching a nation, but sanctioning distinctive individuals.
