Hey everyone,
Okay, I’m not usually a collar-chaser, but a have a crush on one of the priests in my parish. It’s pretty harmless because I’d never try anything with him (and vice versa). Apart from the fact it would be a serious sin and I’d be stealing a good priest from people who need him more, I know it would never work out and I’m sure he’s mature enough to know the same. But the other day I was reading the Catechism and was reminded of the ninth commandment “You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife.”
The Roman Catechism mentions really briefly about cases with the religious but it’s not very indepth. So I tried to stop thinking about him for a few days and did alright, it actually brought me closer to God through prayer briefly. However, I found that I was less interested in my youth ministry work and became pretty depressed, which took me further from God.
This man really brings a lot of joy into my life and inspires me to work hard on a difficult youth ministry. Even though I can never have him, he still makes me happy and I thank God for him and the happiness he brings me. I feel like he brings me closer to God. And besides, I’ll get over him eventually.
I do occasionally fall into lust with him, which is definitely a sin. I’m beginning to think that the point of the commandment is to emphasis purity. The Catechism was talking about avoiding carnal concupiscence → va/archive/catechism/p3s2c2a9.htm which means lusting after someone’s body, right?
Is it alright to have a crush on him as long as it doesn’t degenerate into lust or a desire for him over God?
