Ok, it’s been awhile since I vented about my nullification saga…
but it’s so unbelievable I have to share…
To sum up
I applied for an annulment in May…In July the priest told me that he’d had a letter from the Tribunal with a question that he’d had since early June…I was not happy about losing a month of time, but I obtained the documents the Tribunal asked for (copies of my ex’s marriage certificates from his two previous marriages) and took them to the church. A woman there answered the door, snatched them from my hands and said she’d give them to the priest. As I drove away, I decided to call the church and find out who she was just in case there was a problem. She answered the phone and I told her I wanted to know who she was. She wouldn’t give me her name, just said,‘I’m the bookkeeper’.
Fast forward to October. The priest tells me he’s had documents from the Tribunal for me since early August. Now I am really unhappy. He wont give me the documents, says he has to meet with me and if he doesn’t call me I should call him. So I call him and days go by before he calls me back and he tells me that he needs to meet with me but he’s lost his appointment book and he’ll get back to me when he finds it.
Finally I called the Tribunal representative nun who it turns out was assigned to my district all along! She even tells me that the Tribunal asked about me because they couldn’t figure out why everyone but me had completed their paperwork.
Soooo I met with her today and she called the Tribunal only to find out that the priest never sent the documents about the previous marriages to the Tribunal. And she asked me if the priest had asked me about the previous marriages because it seems pretty certain there are grounds for a simple defect of form or ligen or something like that, and all this narrative, paperwork, witnesses etc would never have been necessary.
I just wanted to scream.
She called me today to say that Father put the documents in the mail-today.
She is going to take over my case, and was so apologetic about everything I’ve been through with this process and she promises to straighten everything out.
but it’s so unbelievable I have to share…
