The Numbers Planned Parenthood Doesn’t Want You to Know

We’ve all heard Planned Parenthood’s trite mantra that “only 3%” of their services are abortion procedures in order to downplay the pivotal role that “service” has to their financial stability. Their supporters (and sadly, many pro-lifers) have succumbed to believing that abortion is merely a small part of what Planned Parenthood is all about.

Hi,

It appears this is always the way with large organisations and ESPECIALLY governments. Lies, dam lies and statistics. The philosophy goes “the true figures don’t put us in a great light, so we’ll move the goalposts of how these indicators are measured, calibrated and reported”. Murder for profit, and then lie about it, I don’t know how such people sleep at night, we must keep praying for them. Jesus is the truth the way and the life.

God bless

it would still be disgusting if “only” 3% of there business was killing unborn children

The statement that only 3% of their services is abortion is correct.I see nothing wrong with the other services they provide such as access to birth control and family planning.

Then you should not be receiving communion for you are supporting sin and thus in a state of sin yourself. Please reconcile yourself to what the Church teaches and stand with Christ for life. Praying for your conversion back to Christ!

As Abby Johnson well knows, PP’s business model is all about abortion:
Planned Parenthood’s claim that abortions make up just 3 percent of its services is also a gimmick. That number is actually closer to 12 percent, but strategically skewed by unbundling family planning services so that each patient shows anywhere from five to 20 “visits” per appointment (i.e., 12 packs of birth control equals 12 visits) and doing the opposite with abortion visits, bundling them together so that each appointment equals one visit. The resulting difference between family planning and abortion “visits” is striking.

But that’s not the only deception PlannedParenthood is spreading.

It also claims to help reduce the number of abortions. Not only is this not what PlannedParenthood actually accomplishes, but its goal couldn’t be more opposite. As a PlannedParenthood clinic manager, I was directed to double the number of abortions our clinic performed in order to drive up revenue. In keeping, PlannedParenthood headquarters recently issued a directive mandating that all of its affiliates provide abortions by 2013.

PlannedParenthood has found other ways to increase revenue at the expense of women’s safety. Abortion consultations are now often done without a doctor in the room through online “telemedicine.” Abortion is a severely traumatic and potentially dangerous procedure. Even as Planned Parenthood’s 2008 Employee of the Year, I saw this aggressive push toward more “efficient” telemedicine as risky.

Another nuisance the organization is seeking to do away with is reporting sex abuse of minors. It has sued to overturn a child abuse reporting law applying to minors under 14 on the grounds that it violated a girl’s “constitutional right to privacy.” PlannedParenthood called the bill unnecessary given that its medical personnel are already obliged to report such matters and that filing additional reports would only “overload” the government. PlannedParenthood doesn’t want to bother the government with protecting minors.

It also can’t be bothered to enable women to make informed decisions. PlannedParenthood has adamantly opposed laws in nearly two dozen states that require clinic staff to show a woman a sonogram before an abortion. With all the supposed health services these clinics provide, why should they fear sonograms? Because they cut down on its biggest income source.

Hello St Patrick.

Like a lot of progressive Catholics I support artificial birth control. There is a big difference between abortion(murder)and preventing pregnancy(family planning)Many couples can not afford to have children and should not be compelled to practice natural family planning which is often unreliable. And you dont have to pray for me as I consider myself to be a good Christian.🙂

It sounds like you may have gone past “progressive” to dissident. That being said, the large print is unnecessary yelling. When someone makes a statement that is contrary to what the Church teaches, others will provide the correction. It’s the way these forums are set up.

Wow. You may indeed consider yourself a good Christian but you are going directly against the Catholic Church.

  1. Perhaps, but how seriously do you take abortion? If you take it as seriously as adherents to Catholic Social Teaching, you will agree that it is a grave violation of human rights. So imagine telling a pro-lifer the following: “Don’t worry. PP only commits this grave violation of human rights 3% of the time…” Doesn’t wash.
  2. The 3% figure doesn’t account for another factor. PP very frequently leases out space to abortionists, thereby profiting directly from abortion. And what convenience! They can refer patients to an exam room two yards away!
  3. As the linked article mentioned, over 90% of PP’s patients with confirmed pregnancies get abortions. There’s nothing “pro-choice” about that. That’s pro-abortion. 😦

I am against abortion 100%,but for responsible family planning which may or may not include ABC,NFP or sterilization if that is what a commited couple decide is best for them. Many people receive family planning services from Planned Parenthood which do not include abortion.

Which is a postion that is contrary to Catholic teaching.

Franna, on other threads you have indicated that you are a returning Catholic and plan to take some courses to get reaquainted with the faith. May I suggest a course in moral theology?

I would recommend taking a course on the Theology of the Body from a theologian who knows his/her stuff.

OK, Franna, what happens what that artificial birth control FAILS? Because it certainly can fail, and does on a pretty regular basis. Now we have a little “problem,” do we not? The couple has already decided that they are not open to life, yet here life has already begun. Can you see how they now could very easily decide that since the timing is wrong, an abortion is the right choice? Children are not punishments for having sex. They are what God intended as the outcome of sex!

Planned Parenthood has a name that is directly contradictory to what they do. They actually destroy parenthood. No “family planning” goes on inside their clinics. Only the stopping of conception and the ending of lives already created.

Are you suggesting that ABC is perfectly reliable and never fails? That it’s the perfect solution to couples trying to prevent pregnancy?

If you can say NFP is unreliable then you have to say that all ABC is as well.

Being Catholic means you are always open to life…ABC is not being open to life and therefore not part of the teachings of the Church.

I am currently reading a book on Catholic Moral Theology which I purchased from OSV as well as other books including; The Heart Of Catholicism by James.Having second thoughts about returning to the church.I do not agree with a number of things.**And I do not believe being Catholic means you must always be open to life.**I am a 51 year old childless woman who is still fertile, but I have no desire to have children at my age.

And to those who stated that it is a grave sin to disagree with church teaching;Do not worry,I have no intention of receiving communion, but I will return to church to discuss matters over with a Priest.

Are you aware that the birth control pill also causes abortions by thinning the endometrium so that the embryo cannot implant?

Are you aware that birth control pills are a Class 1 Carcinogen (same as asbestos, declared by the World Health Organisation)? Taking them is hazardous to your health.

Natural Family Planning has a similar ‘failure’ rate to BCP, meaning, properly followed, it is just as effective at planning your family as pills that can cause abortions or play havoc with your health.
However, when used 100 percent correctly, it resulted in only 0.4 unintended pregnancies per 100 women per year, a rate on par with chemical methods. While not a new method, this large-scale study of women following a detailed fertility awareness-based method of family planing (arguably the oldest form of family planning known) showed that it can rival its modern chemical counterparts for effectiveness.
Contraceptives / Natural Family Planning (NFP)
Effectiveness / Studies
"There is no doubt about it: some physicians are well informed about Natural Family Planning and they strongly encourage its use. Some are so convinced about the medical and moral hazards of unnatural forms of birth control that Natural Family Planning (NFP) is the only form of conception control they will offer to their patients.
Natural Family Planning Research Database
"However, the fact that some methods of NFP can be 99% effective in the avoidance of pregnancy seems unknown to most of the general public – including many health professionals.
The statement that only 3% of their services is abortion is correct.I see nothing wrong with the other services they provide such as access to birth control and family planning.
3% is incorrect. It is only achieved by dishonest manipulation of the data. They are in business to abort babies, and to sell their body parts for profit.

The Connection between Contraception and Abortion
The connection between contraception and abortion is primarily this: contraception facilitates the kind of relationships and even the kind of attitudes and moral characters that are likely to lead to abortion. The contraceptive mentality treats sexual intercourse as though it had little natural connection with babies; it thinks of babies as an “accident” of pregnancy, as an unwelcome intrusion into a sexual relationship, as a burden.
Availing oneself of their other services cooperates with grave evil.

Condoms dont cause abortions and they are form of birth control which also prevents aids, but the church is also against there use which I dont agree with.Unlike the pill, condoms are not a health hazzard.

Please delete my membership from this fundamentalist Catholic site,as I want no part of this craziness!
