Proverbs 27:15 “A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.”

Proverbs 27:16 “Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.”

Whoever tries to stop a contentious woman…it is like trying to grab wind…she slips through your fingers.

I don’t know why this is in moral theory subforum though.

Douay-Rhiems: Prov. 27: 15-16: *Roofs dropping through in a cold day, and a contentious woman are alike.
He that retaineth her, is as he that would hold the wind, and shall call in the oil of his right hand.

Commentary on verse 16: Ver. 16. Hand. As it will flow away, such a woman is commonly incorrigible. (Calmet).

No deep, dark, hidden meaning here. It’s merely saying that dealing with a contentious woman is like putting up with a leaky roof, or trying to hold back the wind, or trying to hold oil in your hand.

1 Corinthians 7:8-9

“Now to the unmarried and to widows, I say: it is a good thing for them to remain as they are, as I do, but if they cannot exercise self-control they should marry, for it is better to marry than to be on fire.”

Leviticus 18:22

“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; such a thing is an abomination.”

Leviticus 20:13

“If a man lies with a male as with a woman, they have committed an abomination; the two of them shall be put to death; their bloodguilt is upon them.”

1 John 2:1-2

“My children, I am writing this to you so that you may not commit sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one. He is expiation for our sins, and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world.”

And your point being?

Proverbs 30:20
“This is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats, wipes her mouth, and says, “I have done no wrong.”

Contentious: 5380. philoneikos From philos and neikos (a quarrel; probably akin to nikos); fond of strife, i.e. Disputatious – contentious.

philos: loving, friendly
Properly, dear, i.e. A friend; actively, fond, i.e. Friendly (still as a noun, an associate, neighbor, etc.) – friend.

nikos: From nike; a conquest (concretely), i.e. (by implication) triumph – victory.

An adulterous woman or just an ordinary woman, who is ‘contentious’, will leave the man not being able to live with her or without her…

Romans 1:26-27 (NAB(RE)) “Therefore, God handed them over to degrading passions. Their females exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the males likewise gave up **natural ****relations **with females and burned with lust for one another. Males did shameful things with males and thus received in their own persons the due penalty for their perversity.”

Romans 1:27 (KJV) “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”

The man who hides the contentious woman cannot live with her nor without her and will be grasping as for the ointment for his right hand…

I’m not making any connection between homosexual behavior and a contentious woman. Would you please just say what you are trying to say? 🙂

I think DELLA got it right. No need for nefarious theories, or ones involving alternate sexualities.

Women are so hard to live with that men turn gay and commit abominations. Makes perfect sense.
