Maybe it’s just me, but I never presumed that the old colonel was actually old or a colonel. I figured he was a younger guy who just chose that as his online persona. 🤷‍♂️ Did someone post from his account saying that he had died?

I do love goodcatholic’s avatar though…Erwin Hauseler’s grin just looks so happy. What a joyful centenarian.

@TheOldColonel whoever you are if you joked about death and people’s grief on it you are a disgrace!
May God enlighten you with His mighty power on the gravity of the thing you have done!
Amen

“Let your Yes be Yes and your No be No. Otherwise, don’t say anything at all!”

No, no one actually said he was. But his avatar changed from the original, to a medal saying rest in peace, to a young military man, to the current version with a grieving woman holding a photoshopped picture of the colonel. So it was just implied.

Ah, I missed the evolution of his avatar image. I’m inclined to chalk it up to his quirky sense of humor. I always had the impression that a number of his posts were made with a tongue-in-cheek spirit.

Yes, he usually was tongue-in-cheek which I liked, but the combo of the changing avatars and the mourning prayer that Tisbear pointed out doesn’t seem tongue-in-cheek…a rather dramatic “joke” I must say…

Indeed. I’m not sure it was his intent that people think that, though. If it was his intent, I agree that it is certainly not a tasteful joke.

I missed the avatar progression too. And his wit, yes–cheerfully sardonic.
Yet, who knows? Perhaps the Old Colonel walks among us still…

And if he’s truly left us? Oh!
