The Old Mass is experiencing a crescendo.

This is what the Italian Liturgist, Prelate Nicola Bux, said in an interview on August 3rd. for the website www.papalepapale.com. The Motu Proprio ‘Summorum Pontificum’ has opened a door. The Celebration facing the people stems from the last century. Prelate Bux defends the celebration facing liturgical east, ad orientem.The idea that the Priest faced the people in the first centuries is “completely false”.

It is no secret that some Bishops do not value the Motu Prorio and oppose it “with all means”. These Bishops conduct themselves “like rebels against the Pope”. Top shepherds, who refuse to obey the Pope, should not expect it from their priests and faithful either. The withdrawal of the Excommunications of the four Society of Pius X Bishops in January of 2009 is hailed by Prelate Bux as a “gesture of great love”. All the more must we strive to unite ourselves with those who share the Catholic Faith. Prelate Bux sees a drama in the Church especially with the intransigence especially as regards the Ecumenists.

Even though it is not easy to prove, there are definitely Bishops who make it difficult to have a Latin mass at a parish.

Reasons used to not have a mass:
– No trained priests
– Not enough attendance
– Can’t move the Novus Ordo

All of those appear to be valid reasons.

However, one can see how a Bishop who is not crazy about the TLM can suppress it subtly using these reasons.

Why can’t the priests be trained if they are interested? The FSSP offers training. In fact, why not allow the FSSP to take over a TLM?

In terms of the attendance, of course there will be less attendance at 9 AM as opposed to 10 or 11.

It’s a tricky situation.

So what might seem like perfectly valid reasons to not have a TLM is actually a subtle way of suppressing.

Writing to authority. And if that doesn’t work then getting in touch with Ecclesia Dei. They actually respond to individuals and make things happen. I know a guy who after a year of constant rejection and lame excuses from the local bishop contacted ED and presented the case for EF in his city. 10 months later the bishop was told to get EF mass going. Victory

Why can’t the priests be trained if they are interested? The FSSP offers training.

Not only the FSSP. The O. Praem (Norbertines) from St Michael’s Abbey also offer it, as do the Canons of St John Cantius. Perhaps there are others as well. There are also instructional DVDs available from the same sources.

The fact is that, although it is more complex than the Novus Ordo, the Usus Antiquior isn’t brain surgery. If the sainted Curé d’Ars (who was notoriously slow in seminary) could learn it, one would imagine that just about any priest today who is interested could do likewise. I know several priests who taught themselves, and their Masses are lovely.

I won’t name names, but there are bishops in California who have opposed the TLM, and yet the TLM has garnered a demand here. Thankfully, there have been priests like the one at my parish who have provided this for the faithful.
