The old testament prepares us for the new testament and the new testament fulfilled the old testament. Also we should not always read the OT in a literal sense. Sometimes we have to read it in spiritual sense.

Yes there are also ‘types of Christ’ in the OT to reflect on. Such as Adam, Abel, Melchizedek, David, Noah, Moses, etc.
 
I went to a Baptist school for undergrad-- it was Very Baptist. I still remember the girl who had written a Letter to the Editor to protest having to read a particular book for a Literature class, because it had sex, violence, and bad words. She preferred to read her Bible. The Letters to the Editor for the next few weeks were full of other students pointing out just how much sex, violence, and bad stuff goes on in the Bible. 😛

It was a good reminder to read the whole thing, not just the 30 or 40 passages that everyone memorizes. 🙂
 
Thanks for this. The Old Testament is something I have been struggling with recently, and have been praying for clarity. That article read like an answered prayer!
