The oldest saint prayer ever made (and other saint prayer questions)

I was curious what the oldest saint prayer ever recorded was. And it may have been a prayer to St Joseph in 50AD. The prayer is below.

While pondering this, I was curious if anyone had a favorite unique prayer. Id love to hear your favorites! šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘¼šŸ˜‡

ANCIENT PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH
Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires.

Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.
 
Iā€™ve been saying this prayer every night for Lent! I had no idea of its history! Thank you so much for sharing!
 
If I remember correctly, it was found on a wall in roman catacombs. I read some time ago also that it was one of the oldest, but some events, like the apparition of Our Lady of the Pillar (40 A.D.) to st. James apostle leads me to beleive that there could have been devotion to Mary by that time too.

I like many prayers, but I got one I say after mass, from st. Gertrude

Eternal Father I offer you the most precious blood of your divine son Jesus in union with the masses said throughout the world today for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Also, when I pray the rosary, I meditate on the fruits of the rosary
 
Prayer for Daily Neglects

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with all Its love, all Its sufferings and all Its Merits.

First, to expiate all the sins I have committed this day and during my life. say a Glory Be

Second, to purify the good I have done badly this day and all my life. say a Glory Be

Third, to supply for the good I ought to have done, and that I have neglected this day and during all my life. say a Glory Be
 
I have been saying this prayer lately too, but I think there is some controversy over whether it really dates to 50 AD. As others have pointed out, the language especially in the second half of the prayer is more typical of 19th century prayers than very early prayers, and the reference to ā€œEmperor Charlesā€ is historically suspect. The language about ā€œnever known to failā€ etc also is typical of chain prayers and raises suspicion about its veracity.

Itā€™s possible that some small part of the prayer is very old and that more was added to it later.

In any event, itā€™s still a nice prayer.
 
Hmmm thanks for keeping me honestā€¦ Isnā€™t it a simple matter to do carbon dating and figure out the date? Your points are duly noted, and I admit the prayer does sound rather modern.
 
itā€™s still a good prayer though. And this is the month of St. Joseph so we should all be praying to him.
