Is it ok for me to meditate on the reality that humanity as a whole I’d one. That from the beginning all of creation was one. It was God’s dream that we should all be one. So meditating on this dream of God I will become more accepting of those around be because we are all One, by virtue of us being spiritual beings made in the image and likeness of God?

Firstly, why would it not be okay? Secondly there’s this. “Faith is required of you, and a sincere life, not the height of understanding, nor diving deep into the mysteries of God.” The quote was from Thomas A. Kempis’s The imitation of Christ. Good fortune on your journey.

Absolutely! From what I know of the patristics (which isn’t that much, sadly), they were firmly committed to the unity of the human race. For example, Gregory of Nyssa argued for the reconciliation of all things back to God, in the end, based on that fundamental unity. IMO, it helps us to resist the idea of wondering about “the others,” when we meditate on the unity of the race. It reminds me of the parable in Luke 18,
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank thee that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
We all seem to sadly be at risk of thinking of “the others” and not seeing ourselves in them (and them in us).
