When will the scourge of modernism end!?
Our Lady of Akita, pray for us.

I love this … the Franciscans mention that some indigenous people honor this Pachamama as the earth mother. Then they draw a comparison to St Francis to highlight that we have similarities and try to emphasize unity.

So sad to see the vitriol being directed good churchman and division being sown by a small chunk of Catholics

Why are you assuming the worst of someone.
The comment does not refer to St Francis.
It was meant tongue in cheek … apologies if it didn’t come through

I’m remain confounded by the outrage by some about the good efforts being made in the Amazon

It also seems to portray the pachamama as St. Elizabeth, since the picture portrays two pregnant women and refers to the Visitation. I guess one pregnant woman can just be exchanged with another, in the eyes of whoever wrote this.

Some smaller groups of orthodox Franciscans are flourishing, getting vocations. But the larger, mainstream orders of priests and brothers, and those of sisters, are dropping dramatically.

One might say they have embraced the “American Amazon” (secular culture) but not the actual Amazon (individuals in South and North America tempted towards Paganism).

I would like to reiterate:

🎵 So rock me pachamana like a wa-gon wheel. Rock me pachamana any way you feel. Heeeeeeyyyyyyy pachamama rock me. 🎵

That is all.

Just fine. Nothing wrong with praising God in his creatures. Now, if instead he prostrated himself and offered sacrifices to an earth goddess, then Catholics who respect the First Commandment would have had a problem, as they do now. As St. Francis said in his canticle, “Woe to those who die in mortal sin.” And idolatry is a mortal sin.

Many think that Francis was a bunny-hugging bird kisser. When they think of him, they start to croon the tune from Brother Sun, Sister Moon or the ditty falsely attributed to him, “Make me a channel of your peace”. But Francis of Assisi was not a medieval peacenik. There was only one accord Francis wanted: the accord of one Faith… by their conversion.

Francis went to the Egypt to convert Sultan al-Kamil, a nephew of Saladin.

St Francis didn’t go to Egypt to convert the Sultan, but to serve those who suffered because of the war. What he saw the Crusaders doing, disgusted him

He was taken to the Sultan and impressed the Sultan with his faith, but that wasn’t the main purpose of St Francis going to the Middle East

Also, books written by his brother Franciscans like Fr Murray Bodo O.F.M. speak of Francis contemplative spirituality where he embraced God’s creation, including the animals of the forest where he lived.

Yes, Francis did love bunnies and birds, as they are God’s creation

That’s not really useful or important in any way.

Laudato si’, mi’ Signore, per sora nostra matre terra, la quale ne sustenta et governa, et produce diversi fructi con coloriti flori et herba.

Blessed be you O Lord for sister mother earth who sustains and governs us, and produces diverse fruits and colorful flowers and herbs.

Cantico delle creature. San Francesco d’Assisi.

Translation by me. 🤓

Minor correction - I think Franciscans International is not a religious order, but is some sort of human rights advocacy NGO started by some Franciscan social justice types. Franciscans seem to be quite involved in managing it though.

I think that Christmas greeting is ugly and sacrilegious, so I won’t be donating to them or supporting their work going forward.
