Has anyone been to a mass where the mass of the people are offered the Eucharist first. After all have received, the Eucharistic Ministers would offer to each other and then finally the priest. So the priest is the last to receive the Eucharist.

Also, the creed is always left out, and some other prayer is in its place.

Any comments would be helpful.
 
What you describe was something that was fairly common during the late 1980s – and attempt at “being hospitable” with the thinking being that the ministers were the “hosts” and they didn’t receive until after the guests. This has been prohibited since the theology that is expressed by this is very bad. Nobody is a “guest” since we are all the Body of Christ. The priest must receive first since he is acting in persona Christi and the Mass is not complete until he has received under both species. Rome has, therefore, directed that those giving communion must receive before they give communion (this can be thought of as “you can’t give what you don’t have”).

One may not substitute another prayer for the Creed, although the Creed need not be said on weekdays.

So does this priest need to be notified that he is not celebrating mass in the correct manner. I often attend this mass, and I like his homilies. The creed is always left out and a “Faith to Mountains” is said in its place on the Sunday Masses.

What, now is my obligation. Do I question him?
 
What on earth is a “Faith To the Mountains?”

The only exception to the use of the Nicene Creed on Sundays is if there is a baptism (the renewal of baptismal promises take care of this) or if you’re in Canada and the Apostles’ Creed is the norm.
 
I play for a parish that is led by the Conventual Franciscan friars.

Once a month at a 9:00 A.M. Mass, the Holy Name Society is present during Mass (about 50 men and their banner), and Father will substitute the Pledge of the Holy Name Society in the place of the Nicene Creed.

It’s a wonderful pledge, and it’s very touching to see the men of the parish stand and repeat it boldly and humbly.

Father is in his late 60s, BTW, and a better, kinder man you will never find. Often I forget that he is a priest and think, “That’s Jesus up there.”

I have never questioned Father and I probably won’t start, even if someone here claims that this is an abuse. I don’t know anything about the Order of Mass for the Franciscan friars, and IMO, Father’s Superior in his Order is the only one who has the right to make any necessary corrections.

It is a very good pledge, but it still cannot be used as a substitute for the Nicene Creed. The Franciscan Superior, or the local bishop for that matter, do not have the authority to add or subtract from the liturgy.

I would approach him and ask why he’s doing what he’s doing. If you cannot gently get your point across you have a right to go to the bishop.
