The Our Father/Lord's Prayer

Tonight I attended our baccalaureate service for graduation, and for the invocation the student leader announced that we would be praying the Lord’s Prayer. So everyone prayed together,

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

She stopped at this point and said amen, as did I, but the audience continued with,

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours now and forever. Amen.

So I guess I’m confused because I didn’t think of this as part of the actual Our Father even though we say it during Mass. Other people were embarrassed for her because they thought she forgot the prayer, but when I pray the Our Father outside of Mass I stop after “deliver us from evil” too. Everyone I talked to thought that’s weird.

Please shed some light on this! It’s not a big deal, but since everyone thought it was odd NOT to include that part, I’m starting to question my sanity. 😛

Oh, well this makes sense then (from the article): “[The doxology] is attached to the version of the Lord’s Prayer used by most Protestants.”
 
Yep, its the protestant version. I have an Uncle who is a protestant ( it varies as to which church has the best choir) and that is the version of the Our Father that they say/sing
 
The United Church I goes to actually closes it with:

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever, amen.
 
The Lord’s Prayer is very important in our faith so much that priests assign this prayer to be devoutly prayed by penitents in the confessional,
