No, Lutherans believe it is the work of the Holy Spirit, we do not “decide”, we have an objective faith in Christ, not subjective faith in our selves and our works.While much of your statement seems to bear truth…its seems that there exists a possibility that modern Lutherans, based on the different Lutheran denominational views that many have departed from the original teachings of Luther. Because he in fact did still embrace many, many, of the teachings of Catholicism. Yes?

The Idea of the Lutheran Reformation was to call the church on its error, Lutherans find themselves close to the RCC than many other denom.
