In the name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate [A very syriac invocation “Bshem Alloho Rahimo”]. This is a letter to the servant of God Umar [ibn al-Khattab], Commander of the Faithful, from the Christians of such-and-such a city. When you came against us, we asked you for safe-conduct (aman) for ourselves, our descendants, our property, and the people of our community, and we undertook the following obligations toward you:

We shall not build, in our cities or in their neighborhood, new monasteries, Churches, convents, or monks’ cells, nor shall we repair, by day or by night, such of them as fall in ruins or are situated in the quarters of the Muslims.

Thank you for your posts , which seem to bring in a fresh , close at hand perspective on certain pertinent things !

One of the notable things in the well known messages of Bl.Mother in The Church , in places such as Lourdes , Fatima, Kibeho etc :- is , how she uses children to bring out the message ; may be almost like an invitation for The Church /Churches , to look at certain things with such a fresh perspective - hence bringing this up , with no intent to cause ill will , but , to see if such matters play a part in the bigger pattern of events .

It is regarding the two serpents on the staff /crossier of those in hierarchy and mostly prevalent / originated among the separated Churches , AFIK .

Looked it up , to see that it is a Greek symbol and ofcourse , there is the symbolism with the serpent that Moses lifted up - even though that was a single serpent , the statue of which was later destroyed by the Jewish people, when it was taking on an idolatrous role .

Reason to wonder is , if this too might have been an imposition from outside powers with other motives and if so, if that too could be playing a role , in serving the objectives of those who did so !

Relevance of the matter could be , esp. for those in The East , who hold on to traditions of venerating both the cross and the crucifix - latter said to be almost a necessity , AFIK, for purposes of exorcism .

The Eastern Catholic Churches , in loving responsibilty , are also invited by Bl.Mother , to do their share of penance , to foster unity and may be if the symbolism of the staff and serpents is a tradition that needs reparation , the crucifix is something that would , hopefully remain indispensable,

Good thing is , most of the rosaries come with crucifixes too ! - 🙂

Would undesrtand any relutctance to discuss these topics , in case it might be more of a sensitive area than my undertanding of same !

Peace !

Why do you insist on posting these things over and over, when you’ve already been told that Eastern Christians don’t necessarily practice the same devotions as Western Christians - and aren’t required to by the Vatican?

As for penance, I think Eastern Catholics have done quite a bit of it throughout their history. 😉

Well, we know that neither The Dove nor The Woman likes snakes that much …
esp. ones that seem like an angry brood , about to bite off each other’s heads …

Thus, hoping that , enough prayers raised up about all these areas and one day soon, Papa can use his role and wisdom , for swift moves , to put in right what need to be…without the almost impossible , tortuous path of counciles etc .
  • thus to see the triumph of the Immaculate Heart , wherein, we all get to focus on God’s love for each and how to show gratitude, instead of attitudes and even practices of dubious origins play their roles , to keep fostering what comes with divisions !
Peace !

Most Eastern Catholics (such as those in this subforum) don’t follow the Western devotions you’re talking about (like the Immaculate Heart).

Generally (but with exceptions), Eastern Catholics do not utilize the image, devotion or theology associated with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, seeing it as a form of liturgical latinization. - Trinity Stores

Please - at least try to show some respect for OUR traditions.

Thank you for the gentle words of correction and the good article cited about the devotion .

There was no intent to be insensitive and you seem to recognise same ;

No intentional efforts to bring confusion/disrespect about one’s practices and if such seems to take place , hope it would be seen more as lack of familiarity ,with particular Church practices /sensitivities .

Reiteratiting the previous post , the hope is that recognition of truth that can set us free, from undue fears or practices that might have crept in , through influences of those without the best interest of those they subjugated and correcting such , might heal and help with problems we all face , at many levels , in the Universal Church and the related ones .

God bless !

I wouldn’t find the Pact of 'Umar quite as heinous as I do if it weren’t for the fact that it’s perennially trotted out by Islamists and their sycophants as a laudable example of Islamic “tolerance” (which is usually contrasted by the apparent lack of tolerance in the big, bad Christian world…right) which should serve as an example of Muslim-Christian relations also in the modern day. To that I say bull hockey. If it’s really so great, the Muslims should try living under similar restrictions on their own religion and its propagation and see how they like it. They’d be crying foul in very short order.

Doesn’t seem like much of a pact, more like a surrender. Lord have mercy

This is exactly what I said to my professor when I took a class on islamic history last year. Its a delusional view of history. If this is the best Islam has to offer in its entire history, then I say no thank you to muslim governance.

Oh that’s better than the best of what they have to offer. I wouldn’t even bother to include the “thank you” part in my utter rejection of same.

I’m particularly struck by the little clause of not preventing conversions because I know this doesn’t work both ways.

Topic of Family Healings is a very relevant and upcoming theme in our times .

nbccongress.org/features/prayer-for-healing.asp - essentials on the topic,
more elaborated , in the popular book on same too .

Reason to bring this up is, the issues related to the Papacy are possibly very much related to pacts such as the above , with its ongoing impact , at God alone knows what all levels and of what magnitude !
Code:
And , to counter , in truth , justice and holiness , The Church needing
the role of the Papacy , to be what it is now , as has been inspired by The Spirit !

usccb.org/bible/readings/102313.cfm - the above Gospel narrative on the need

for fidelity to that role and the promises for same, thus being put in charge of more -
The Lord would have foreseen long ago who and where that would be too !

Let us hope and pray that those who are meant to be helped the most ,
by the undoing of the effects of the ungodly pacts ( and who knows if there are such others out there too ! )
and its ongoing effects , would have their eyes and hearts to see the truth ,

not be so distracted and paralysed , seeing mountains where there are none

but through prayers of all holy saints , would be able to gratefully embrace God’s blessings , to be thus set free , and bring countless others too , into same !

The above pact helps to depict , at a family level , for persons to grasp better, the teachings of The Church , on contraceptive use , in marriage ;

Bl.John Paul 11 equates same as the user mind set , even a ’ prostituting ’ relationship , that is incapable of caring about the real good and dignity of the other !

With the massive promotion and even compulsive measures to enforce same ,at national level , easy to see where the roots are from !

And we also see the intent of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception too, to help families, to take strenght and truth , to live in the dignity and unity that is meant to promote lasting good of all !

’ A Mother has authority over her sons ’ so we read in The Word

Thus, we can be grateful for the recent Consecration of the world, to the Immaculate Heart , by the Holy Father , inviting her to take over affairs ,to use that authority in lives …such as to undo any unholy pacts , entered into by any , in The Church , to remove its effects , hopefully , esp. from all who accept that role which the Holy Father has entrusted her !

May such role and prayers of her be there , in each of our lives , to free us too , from any such pacts in our lives and in lives of those with any authority over us , along with its effects , as well as that of any such that have been entered into , by any in our ancestral lines and casting off the related spirit of fearful divisions or any and all other adverse effects from such , in lives of any of us , enabling us, to accept gratefully, the role of the Papacy and all other blessings that The Spirit desires for all, to lead us into freedom of oneness of hearts , in the beauty and goodness of truth and its protection !

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us !
