I’ve been reading this parable in my Bible and one verse has completely and utterly confused me:

[BIBLEDRB]Luke 19:20-23[/BIBLEDRB]

What does this passage even mean in the context of the parable? It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

God gave you talents and grace… use them. Don’t be a wicked servant and return only to God what He gave you by His own hand.

In other words, be useful and live the life of good works which you were ordained in Christ to do (Eph 2:10)

What is it with those people who are talented having more talents or the gifted more gifts? Have you ever wonder why the rich gets even richer while the poor gets even poorer?

The answer is the good stewards hone their talents, skills, gifts and riches to new, higher level from where they started. They made the ball rolling so to speak. They learn and develop new skills. They reinvented themselves. They grow and INCREASE there capabilities and capacities. They simply put into good used their God given potentials.

Compare that to the bad steward who remained stagnant, inactive who hid away his potentials and wasted opportunities to fully develop into something better or maybe the best.

Think of the best athletes in the world, they did not became the best by just sitting around. They develop themselves to be the best.

Jesus concluded the parable with these words:
26 “I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. Luke 19:26
Jesus is simply saying “Use it (for God’s glory) or lose it”.

What about verse 27? What does the verse mean?

NRSV
“But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them–bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.”
