so the ending of the parable what does that mean But will the son of man find faith on earth when he comes?

do you have a detailed commentary on this parable?

The early Church was a church of prayer. Whenever anything happened, the Church would gather as a group and pray. All throughout Acts of the Apostles, we see the Church gathering in prayer repeatedly. .

Jesus teaches us to ask in prayer, to pray constantly, and to have faith. God answers the prayers of those who ask in faith.

***pray constantly, **(1 Thessalonians 5:17)

**Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving; **(Colossians 4:2)

And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith." (Matthew 21:22)*

I think Jesus wonders if their will be anyone who believes when He returns. He says elsewhere that For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. I do have a book on Luke if I can find it I will post it if it says anything regarding your question.

Here is the note from the NAB.

1 [1-14] The particularly Lucan material in the travel narrative concludes with two parables on prayer. The first (⇒ Luke 18:1-8) teaches the disciples the need of persistent prayer so that they not fall victims to apostasy (⇒ Luke 18:8). The second (⇒ Luke 18:9-14) condemns the self-righteous, critical attitude of the Pharisee and teaches that the fundamental attitude of the Christian disciple must be the recognition of sinfulness and complete dependence on God’s graciousness. The second parable recalls the story of the pardoning of the sinful woman (⇒ Luke 7:36-50) where a similar contrast is presented between the critical attitude of the Pharisee Simon and the love shown by the pardoned sinner.

Understanding Luke 18

The parable of the widow and crooked- judge Luke 18

Perhaps we should begin by asking what is the common attribute found in “justice?”

It is “TRUTH

The entire chapter 18 helps one uncover the parable’s moral teaching. And it is one of very great and very common relevance even today.

The Judge here is known to be a man without moral values. “What’s in it for ME?” is what he seeks in passing judgment. While the widow women, understanding that “truth” and therefore God are on her side is persistent in seeking what is her “just due.”

The judge, for reasons that benefit him; fearing a severe reprisal from the women who simply will not relent, not give up; decides to rule in her favor; NOT because it is “the right thing to do” [his job], rather, looking after his own interest, he desires to rid himself of the problem.

The MORAL TEACHING here is: [1] Truth prevails [2] have faith in God; not in man [3] in the end it is God and His truth that conquer.

The balance of the chapter continues to teach this Moral Lesson: have Faith in God; not mere men.

Vs. 11: “The Pharisee standing, prayed thus with himself: O God, I give thee thanks that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, as also is this publican”

The faith-Moral here is True Faith is inseparable from humility

Vrs. 15-17 cf. Be like children in order to attain heaven:

Humble,** WILLING to be instructed… by those I have appointed, guide, guard and protect in My Church and with MY Faith BOTH SINGULAR**, seeking God’s truth. “Amen, I say to you: Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a child, shall not enter into it”

In vrs 18-20 Jesus is asked “What must I do to attain heaven?”
His reply is FIRST: OBEY ME [giving the example of the commandments here], but meaning ALL that I teach and command. Second: Practice Charity in all of its forms, “Good Works” will offset the just punishment of many sins.

Biblehub.com has multiple commentaries available for verses. It is usually (but not always) the Pulpit Commentary that offers the most clarity (as in this case, for me). Thanks for the question as I hadn’t paused on these verses before.
