The Patron Saint of Youtube

Even though this could actually go in the Popular Media category, I placed it here. It deals with saints.

So background. One of my favorite authors, John Green, and his brother Hank Green make Youtube videos for each other and their fans (called Nerdfighters. He mentions it in the video). Anyways, in this video, John is discussing patron saints, and how there is not one for Youtube. He proposes a candidate.

John is not Catholic, he is however a Christian, and a former chaplain at a Children’s hospital. He is very respectful and funny at the same time. Hope you enjoy.

Why wouldn’t Saint Isidore of Seville be a good patron saint of Youtube? After all, he is the patron saint of computers and the internet.

Why not St. Bruno? I mean, youtube was founded in San Bruno, CA. It kinda fits.

St. Isidore would work, though. And of course, St.Clare (my own baptismal saint) because of television. But Padre Pio also works, because he is recent and thus more close to technology, and because of bilocation. This is a tough choice, but I doubt there will ever be an official patron saint of youtube.

I’m an actress (not my “day job”) and St. Genesius is the patron saint of actors.

However, I also pray to Archbishop Fulton Sheen, who had his own TV show back in the 1950s and his cause is up for Sainthood. I think he’s still at the “Servant of God” level.

I don’t want to derail the thread, but is John Green a Christian? I read “Fault in Our Stars” (a little bit–the main character was a first-class brat IMO), but I did not get any particular pro-Christian vibe from it. Not to mention SPOILER ALERT!!!–the main characters have sex and I’m not sure it was portrayed in a negative light, or in the sense of dont do this stupid thing.
