Perhaps it’s old hat. Maybe we’re dead to it now, inured from continued shock --chastened, numb. In a recent interview that received surprisingly little attention even from Catholics, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., a Catholic, talked to Newsweek’s Eleanor Clift. Pelosi was asked about her “brushes with the [Catholic Church] hierarchy.” Madam Speaker knew what that meant: abortion.

Thank you.

This is a very illuminating article on why “Catholics” such as Ms. Pelosi are, in effect, not Catholic. To be Catholic is to *surrender *your will over God’s. Ms. Pelosi’s error is in using a hard feminism belief to justify her actions of free will, ignoring anything she has ever been taught as a Catholic.

The article notes CCC 1740, which denies Ms. Pelosi’s comment on free will: “The exercise of freedom does not imply a right to say or do everything.”

She also appears to see the Church as having the authority to change teaching on abortion. Unlike the silliness in the U.S. Congress, the magisterium knows its limits of authority. She sees the Vatican as just another political body that changes its tune to the times. If she truthfully practiced as Catholic, she would understand otherwise.

"First, because she was “raised to believe … what I profess,” and, second, because, “we are all endowed with a free will.” Indeed, insisted Pelosi, “women should have that opportunity to exercise their free will.”"Women along with all of us, have a right to exercise their free will. Some exercise free will to commit robbery, arson, or murder. The fact that one has free will does not mean that nothing should be legally prohibited. ‘Surely the government should not punish me for exercising my free will.’ It is just a silly argument, and yet one that I have heard from some in the pro-abortion camp. It’s nonsense. The existence of free will is no argument against civil or criminal law. Otherwise no laws could be enforced, since the perpetrator was only exercising free will.

It seems that any argument, no matter how absurd, is clutched at to salve a conscience that has grown to accept the wholesale extermination of unborn children.

Pelosi is a liberal Protestant who happens to have been a cradle catholic.

No more need be said about this.

Well her position is theologicaly nonsensical but it affords her a story she can tell herself.

Inasmuch as the lady is Christian she is a classic dissenting Protestant who favours her conscience and essentially regards teaching as a menu from which the distasteful parts may be sent back.

Her position: Cradle catholicism meaning a sentimental attachment to the Church linked with a mature worldview essentially comprised of a de facto melange of Protestant Dissenter religion and liberal humanism is the norm among those nominal catholics who are supporters of the Democrat Pelosi agenda.
