The Pentagram: Satanic symbol?

You mean “unholy” symbol? Seeing that you admitted that it is used by false eastern religions. The swastika is far from a holy symbol. It is an insult to the Cross because it is basically a crooked cross, with its “arms” and “legs” bent.
Dear me! What a nasty post!

I am not a Catholic, but I am not so ill-mannered as to call Catholicism a “false religion”. I respect the beliefs of others. Nor did I “admit” anything.

The swastika is not an insult to the Cross, since it was in use by Eastern religions long before the cross became a symbol of Christianity.

I’m sorry that you are not Catholic, but the Catholic Church is the One True Church whether you like it or not.

Notice though, the Swastika is facing the opposite direction of the Nazi one:

I made no comment on whether the Catholic Church is the One True Church, nor indeed did I comment on whether I like it. I commented only on the inaccuracy and discourtesy of your statement.

I still wear the pentacle.

Anton Lavey and all this Garderarian wicca and Crowley and all that stuff is really relatively new in the consideration of mystical things.

The pentacle is in medieval manuscripts. And as some mentioned was in the King Arthur stories.

I had a necklace of one made of silver in junior high it may have even been blessed by a priest. I got in trouble for wearing it to school. I think my mom has it lost in storage somewhere.

To the uneducated I’m sure the jubilee medal of st Benedict could be seen as something bad too.

The pentacle and pentagram have been part of church architecture for a long time.

Besides other things we have mentioned it was also a symbol of the vitruvian man.

I like the Gothic look and old mediaeval things so I have no problem with it these days. Even inverted.

We have had pentacles since the dawn of history.

Just another case of missapproriation. Symbols like these belong to all cultures anyway.

We have had this discussion here before.

In the past someone said unfortunately it was a symbol we likely would not be getting back.

Well that is only true if we too demonize it or remain uneducated or fail to inform others.

For me it’s worth holding onto.

I have much sympathy for the pagans and followers of magic as well.

The symbol for alcoholics anonymous seems totally lifted from the Pythagoreans who also used the Pentacle

The Pentagram represents the material realm, the five elements. Research about a demon called Mamona who links our soul to this passibg world.
We bow to one true God from the Bible, not the elements and not magic.

Actually, I’m interested in owning a St. Peter’s cross. It looks like a badass. But nowadays, people will automatically assume that it is the anti-Christ one…

I see.

I just would like to state that the Church didn’t do it to gain more members. She incorporated a few symbols in order to not scare away already converted pagans…

How about this pentagram?

Revelation 3:9???

If I was a Buddhist or Hindu, your attitude would push me far away from the Church.

There’s a 2003 official Vatican document called “Jesus Christ, the Bearer of the Water of Life,” which talks about which parts of traditional pagan beliefs, and even of neo-pagan and occult beliefs, count as a preparation for the Gospel, and how the Church should look for the Holy Spirit’s work even among such gravely mistaken people.

(Obviously this follows the same line of thought as “Lumen Gentium”, which like a lot of evangelism in history, we see being inspired by St. Paul’s preaching about the altar in Athens dedicated to the Unknown God.)

Insofar as ancient geometrical symbols express things like the order of the universe or mathematical principles, they honor the Creator. And anything that honors the Creator belongs to Christianity, and we’re not giving it back. Nyah.

But as was shown, a lot of “pagan” symbols were also ancient Jewish symbols, so they belong to us by right of inheritance. Geometric symbols avoided the question of whether pictorial representations were graven images, so they got used a lot in decoration in Israel and Judah. They didn’t have to be “baptized” and brought into the Church, because they were already there.
