I am 19 and am a relatively new convert to the church (April 20th!) and i was just wondering…I take the pill to stop my acne-which it seems to dispose of effectively- the thing is i am now coming off the pill and want to use a method of NFP/ fertility awareness to track my cycle (so that when i get married, eventually, i will know what is going on!!!) I have heard that by using NaPro technology they can track my cycle so exactly they cansee which hormone is effecting my skin and can cure it! wow! has anyone found this to be true for them???

…does anyone know what the most effective method of NFP is? and has anyone else had the same experience as me (acne!) if so what did you do to get rid of it??? since i am worried it’s gonna come back!!!

(sorry for the 40 questions!)

God bless

Hi lottied,

Welcome Home! As far as which method of NFP works best, I am not sure. We are new to using NFP and are doing STM (though not as completely as I would like . . . see other posts). As far as acne, my wife tried a number of things that did not work, but I think the one that finally did was Proactiv. Good luck and God bless! I know the acne can be a concern for you. It is for my wife. I’ve not found anything to reassure her. I pray it doesn’t bother you as much as it does my wife.

**Used to be on the Pill…had moderate acne…now use NFP…

just a few months ago my skin went NUTS! I won’t even go into details as it’s just awful. Turns out I have too much testosterone which my naturopath is working on regulating. I’d love to know if using a different form of NFP could help even more.**

If you plan to contact a NaPro physician for evaluation, then you need to learn the Creighton method because that is what they use.

Thank you so much for all your help! I have heard from a friend that Evening primrose oil can help acne since it balances hormones, (embwt- maybe see if this will help your wife- especially since the person that told me about it had the most beautifull skin ever!- you may want to check with a doctor that it doesn’t interefere with NFP or proactiv though!)

How would i go about learning the Creighton method? can your NS doctor show you it? if so is it free to learn- i am a student and so finances are tough! (the same question goes for Napro technology!)
God bless you all

My daughter had terrible acne, which came on as a young adult not as a teen. She tried everything before she finally went on the pill, which did work, but she did not like the idea of artificial hormones or the side effects. So she tried accupuncture. It worked and she liked it so much that after getting completing her BA in English she went on to study Oriental Medicine and just graduated with her Masters degree. It is interesting to note that Oriental Medicine advocates natural forms of birth control, which she has learned, and also seems to offer some solutions to fertility problems and other menstrual problems. She is thinking of going for further study on women’s health issues and has offered to help with menopause symptoms, if I ever go through menopause (since I am in my mid-50’s it should be happening soon).

Anyway, I just offer that as a possible solution to your acne problems.

I took accutane for acne–how severe is your acne? if it is very scarring and painful I would recommend a course of accutane rather than the pill…hormones are not necessarily the cause if the acne is severe.

well, my acne used to be quite bad before i went on the pill- which would have been nearly 4 years ago (thus making me 16) i am now older and whilst i have just come off the pill and am learning NFP (so i can assess my cycle etc) i have not been off the pill long enough for my skin to get bad.

I have started taking evening primrose oil 3 times a day as well as a healthy skin, hair and nails formula which should help. i also have Lourdes water which i rub on my face in the morning- as i pray for God to heal my skin! I believe he(Jesus) is gonna preform a good work!!!

Go to the Creighton websites:

www.creightonmodel.com
www.fertilitycare.org

Look for an instructor. Don’t know if there is one in the UK, but if not you can do a distance study course with one who lives elsewhere.

Regarding cost, they typically have a sliding scale so if you cannot pay, then usually they will waive the fee. Just ask.

Regarding NaPro, the website is www.popepaulvi.com and he is in Nebraska. He’s trained a number of doctors in his method, so start at the website and see what they say.

Thank you so much for the websites- i actually contacted fertilitycare and have explained my situation to them- i would ask everyone to pray that i will be able to undergo insruction and learn this method so as to live out Gods will when i (eventually!) get married!

I went to the doctors today (NHS) and i could tell that he must of thought me mad! he kinda smirked at the idea of Naprotechnology and NFP in general- he asked me if there was no way i could stay on the pill for my acne- i said no and that i wanted to find an aternative, he then went on at me and said in essence ‘well, you’re not married so whay does it matter?’’ and i just thought ''it matters because God has given us NFP and i need to learn how to use it especially since 4 years on the pill may make my cycles irregular! ha! i was quite offended a how he just brushed off the whole thing! aaah!

Has anyone else ever had a medical practitioner react this way to NFP??

also, i think it seems wise for me to learn NFP now- since i can get my charting wrong and it does not matter and also i can get to know myself- do you guys agree?

sorry the doc kinda surprised me! (not that i’m gonna back down mind!)
God bless you all!
